Let the fun begin

Ok in all seriousness, i am considering getting a 375, why? I don't know hence the the question. Some applicable information. I am not planning on hunting DG now or in the future as it just doesn't make sense in a financial point of view for the hunting i do. I mainly hunt PG such as Impala, blesbok, wildebeest and will never miss an opportunity at a warthog. All things that a 30-06 can comfortably take. As i hunt in the bushveld of South Africa i am not worried at longer than 250m shots.

I guess i like. The idea of the 3 7 5 as a classic bushveld hunting rifle. But a hell of a lot more recoil than a 06, cost is higher than the 06, and for thr intended species its obviously not necessary, so why the hell do i want a 375 to use as a primary hunting rifle?

Is it a new pandemic that i am caught in?

You only hunt bushveld... for now.
You only take shots under 250m... for now.
You only hunt PG... for now.

One day / some day one of those parameters will change.
One day you'll get the buffalo offer of a life time.
Get the .375
Look for a CZ550 while the prices are still climbing, not when they have hit their peak. You can then look back in a few years and realise/justify the expense when you see how much you saved by buying now and not waiting. ;)

Mostly not only.

Once a year i hunt open. Grasslands woth my brother in law in. Which case i shoot 450+m with his 6.5.

But I prefer bushveld, and like i said. It all can be done woth the 06, but for some reason i want to get the 375. Think its an itch that needs to be scratched

I've been toying with the same idea.... In my case I have a 404 Jeff, which ticks some of the DG boxes. I also have a 300WM, and it would feel like a waste to have all three, however the legal minimums come into play with game such as leopard in SA. I would also feel more comfortable shooting a croc with a 375 rather than a 300WM.

Buy the gun, you only live once...

I would also rather the 375 on a croc than the 300. Strangely enough i never thought of croc hunting? I have seen some photos here and there but never gave it any thought, croc meat is delicious so might put it on my list one day.

I used to be happy with a 30-06 for everything, then Eland became the thing we hunted the most, a lot of good meat for the most cost effective R/kg.
45/70 and now 9.3x6 cover it better.

You could do the same thing with .375.
And then maybe score a Buffalo one day.

I don't think it's necessary to go to the three seven five for croc. The Win Mag is no slouch.
That being said, you definitely DO 100% NEED to get a 375!! Why? Because I think if you've got it in your head at all, you owe it to yourself to make it happen! Remember..... There is
No
Such
Thing
as too many guns!!

And you may trip over a Buffalo one day!

i used a cz 550 on six hunting trips to africa and loved it so much that when i got home from the first trip i bought a new cz 550 in .375 H&H and a remington 700 classic in .375 H&H.

Beware the man with one gun....

That's an old adage but still very true. A 3 7 5 will with good shot placement drop any mean beast you may unexpectedly arouse in the bush. It is also a 300 yard capable cartridge for open plains or across canyon shots.

Probably 99% of us own guns that we do not need. We just want them. Kind of like a lovely wife, Corvette or other sports car, and so on.

I currently own four .375s. They just keep following me home. This week I passed up an AHR Level 3 because I have four already. Hmmm, I thought... So I put two up for sale so that I will have room for the next great .375.

Fill your heart with the things that you desire...

The 375 out of a 9lb rifle (mine is un-scoped) is not bad recoil wise. Felt only a little worse than the 30-06 from the bench. I have the Winchester Model 70 SE and its got a chunky piece of wood on it, which mitigates the recoil. Everyone should own a 375...One of Us...One of Us...

Hell, I would think a 375 with the Peregrine PlainsMaster bullets in 250 or 270 grain would be ideal for those size game animals at those distances.

The 375 not be necessary, costs more, a touch more recoil, but certainly is fun. Financial justification, very doubtful that I can justify any of my hunting or shooting. It is my recreation and hobby. Much worse things to spend money on. The 375 will more than likely last your lifetime and others’.

Asking is 375 worth to buy, on African hunting forum?
This is not the place to ask that kind of question.

Answer is obvious:

1. Hunt: You dont need to buy 375 for DG, but also for hunt on PG on one day is good reason to buy: Eland, giraffe, zebra, bongo, roan, sable, under African quintessential "bring enough gun"

2. Investment: buy Mauser type CRF, 375 (preferably 375 H&H) - put it in locker and observe as the price grow.

I just went through the same thoughts. Then my wife wanted to know what I wanted for Christmas. Oh, a 375 I said. I need an elephant gun although I have never hunted DG. The local gun shop thought it would take a year to get in. In 2 weeks my new browning arrived. I have been enjoying reloading and a little range time between snow storms. It’s so worth it.

Scratched the same itch a few years back in anticipation of using on Buffalo - which hasn’t happened yet. Got a M70 and scoped with Leupold and QR rings. So glad I did!!! Favorite plinking rifle. Shoot at least once a month. Fairly heavy setup with completely manageable recoil, particularly when shooting offhand and using 270gr.

That's why i ask on an African hunting forum, as all logic dictates that i Don't need one, but i am using the forum to justify the WANT

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
