Info on hunting ZA, Botswana, Namibia + Hippo dilema

Has to be done prior to arrival....

You can look through this info per country here....it is pretty up to date and a good source of information....

so in order to enter rifles I Botswana can I apply for the permit directly in the airport in Kasane? or is this something that has to be done prior to my arrival ? Can it be done online or can I hire a service to do it for me? Any more information will be very useful!!!!
You will need a SA permit to spend night in Joberg with rifles and to hunt there later. You will need a copy of Botswana permit before you get to Botswana. Your Botswana outfitter should meet you at airport in Botswana with the original permit.

Sounds like you can get a firearm permit for Namibia upon arrival but maybe not at a remote land crossing? Better check this out.

You better call or at least email with the outfitters in each country with your coordinator or an interpreter on the phone call as well.

Multiple entry permit for SA...
No outfitter in Botswana as he is only transitting throught to hunt in Namibia Caprivi.....

@IvW,

@archeryblackdog,

Since you are initially transiting through South Africa, through Botswana, to Namibia and back to South Africa to hunt, I definitely and highly recommend you use @henryriflepermits for a pre-approval SAPS 520. Marius or his wife should be able to get you the SAPS 520 permit for the duration of your time in Africa. Meaning once you arrive at Johannesburg from Spain the SAPS 520 is good till you depart Johannesburg returning to Spain.

On your return from Namibia through Botswana to Johannesburg, once you arrive back to Johannesburg just show SAPS your SAPS 520 premit showing the premit effective dates, they will check your firearms, you sign the book and your done. Much simpler than when you arrived at Johannesburg from Spain.

Is 338 caliber legal to be used in Namibia for hippo?

As @Fatback (he beat me to it) suggested talk with your outfitter for a land hippo hunt and use your 470. Use your 338 for Plains Game. Leave the 375 home on this trip.

If the 338 is legal for hippo in Namibia use the 338 as an option for a water hippo hunt.

Or

To make your Plains Game hunts more interesting and challenging leave the 338 at home and take your 375 double. Just be prepared to work harder to get in closer to your animals for a shot.

I shot my hippo with a 450/400 double at 48 Meters. Just take your two doubles and work with your PH to get you under 50M on the hippo and go have a good safari.
