New on this site and looking for 30-40 brass. Anyone still have what was advertised?
My Father-in-law left me a 30-40 and one box of ammo. Looking for brass to load.

Greetings Elkhunter8108,

Khomas Highland Hunting & Fishing Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

When you have a spare moment, tell us a bit about yourself, especially if you have anything for us about past Africa experience and / or future Africa plans.
That said, just anywhere (globally), all tales and photographs of hunting, fishing, outdoor details, etc., will be welcome, including what country you might be residing in.

Meanwhile, I think there is a Reloading Forum Section.
If so, you might have a more numerous reader base of people who do that and hopefully someone might have the brass you need.
Otherwise, try the Firearms Section.

Last but not least, if you live in the USA, try Graf & Sons.(www.grafs.com).
They have .30-40 Krag brass now and then (limited run each time)
Likewise —> www.midwayusa.com sometimes has it.
Also, don’t quote me on this but, seems like I read somewhere that you can make Krag brass from the generally more plentiful .303 British empties ?

However, even though it might work to keep your rifle shooting, it could be a little short in the neck.
A steady diet of short brass can leave a stubborn scorch ring, before the rifling, resulting in proper Krag brass becoming sticky to extract.
Another one that might work in a pinch is the longer .405 Winchester brass, pressed full length into a .30-40 die and then trimmed just a tad ?
That said, .405 brass is harder to find lately than .30-40 is.

Thank Goodness for all these stupid newest, meaningless and silly cartridges, draining the global brass supply and cluttering up retail shelves with an endless supply of do-nothing-new calibers.
Sheesh.

Bah Humbug,
Velo Dog.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
