If you smoke - just stop it

Knowing what we know now about what many of the things we inhale, eat, drink, etc.do to a person in the long run it's hard to believe anyone does it any of it. But quite frankly the thought of giving up wine, 2 Hearted Ale, meat, or pasta to me is like giving up things that I truly love, might as well give up sex and hunting as well. A guy ain't going to live forever and to me it's not worth giving all that shit up so I can live 5 more years when I can't do anything anymore anyway. Watching my dad go through it right now at 88. Bottom line, 90% of the people that make it into their 80's, especially men that have worked hard their whole lives are going to have a miserable 5-7 years at the end.

I gave up sex for lent.
Problem was I forgot who I lent it to.
I gave up smoking, drinking and going out with wild women and got bored shitless.
So I got married now don't have to chase wild women because I actually caught one.
My first wife drive me to drink but the bitch would never come and pick me up when I'd had enough.

I smoked on and off up until around 12 years ago. Still miss it at times, but I feel better. If you want to smoke, go for it, if you do not understand the risk you probably need to be out of the gene pool anyway.

Unfortunately the same mindset with smoking is not applied to metabolic syndrome/diabetes/obesity. Health care cost for diabetes is more than health care cost for smoking in the US. One is as preventable as the other (referring to type 2 diabetes). However you cannot tell an overweight person they will lose their eyesight, have limbs cut off (sounds a lot like smokers), etc. but you can tell smokers whatever. Most people do not even want to hear that diabetes/insulin resistance is preventable or treatable through diet and exercise. Off my soapbox....

My wife asked me to give up smoking.
I told her I don't smoke.
She said yes you do I can see it in your hand.
Being me I replied
Darling as much as I find you sexually attractive and hot you don't make me that hot that I smoke.
I'm not a smoker I'm just the sucker in the end of a horrible habit.
She just shook her head and walked off.
I never realised how much it stunk until I gave it up and now can't stand the smell of them.
If people want to smoke that's their right and their problem. I know how hard it is to give up it's that addictive.
Bob
I don’t know how hard they are to give up once you make up your mind
My dad just put all tobacco down after a visit to the dentist where he had a spot on his gum. Carry a pack on his pocket but never opened them.
When I desided to stop I walked away and have not touched another one.
But I did try to quit a few times before I did.
But the hang up was I don’t was not trying to stop for me at those times.
I don’t know if that really makes a difference or not.

Good for you, Bob. I smoked and drank for years when I was young and stupid. One day when I came home and lit up and with my usual afterwork drink it just didn't taste right. Threw the tobacco in the fireplace and dumped the booze down the drain. Quit cold and never looked back. All it takes is a little willpower and self discipline. Now I can't stand the stink of either.

Back before the start of the industrial revolution and all the pollution that is being caused by large companies and larger corporations. I could possibly agree with smoking decreasing people's lifespan.

Since the start of the industrial revolution we breathe in more airborne toxins and ingest more toxins from our food and water supply than from all the current tobacco products.

Believe it, or Not, everyone of us is going to die. None of us (with exceptions: military personnel, law enforcement, firefighters,) don’t really know when, where, or how, we are going to die, it's just going to happen.

So why should anyone deprive themselves of personal happiness like: eating red meat, (responsibly) drinking alcoholic beverages, using tobacco products, (responsibly) riding a motorcycle, etc, etc, etc.
@Ridge Runner
Dang no-one has ever told me I'm going to die.
That's news to me.
If'n only the good die young as the saying goes dang I will live for eternity because I ain't been good a day of my life.
Hell even as a kid my mum said I was a perfect angel.
Just a pity it was a Hells Angel.
Life is good.
A friend once told me
I ain't afraid of dyin'
It's not livin' I'm afraid of.
That ol boy live to a ripe old age and never regereted a day of it. He lived life to the full until the end.

Seed oils are about as bad as anything we've come up with yet, it turns out.

+1 agree.

I think the only reasons I'm not dead yet are:
1. I haven't earned enough good points, doing good deeds to get into heaven.
2. Satan is protesting not to send me to Hell cause he doesn't want me to take over on my arrival.

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!
