If you could only keep three guns, what would they be?

I can’t see getting by without either a shotgun or a 22lr for hunting, and can’t see being without a handgun for defense. So….
Remington 870, with both vent rib and riot barrels.
CZ 457 American 22 lr
Smith and Wesson 28 357 magnum.
That would leave a big hole for sure.
I wish I didn’t have to decide between hunting and defense.

Honestly this is just asking me to think like my grandparents or even myself in my 20s.

Ruger 10/22
Thompson/Center Encore in 30-06
Remington 870 12 gauge.

To be quite honest, the 12 gauge gets little use anymore, so I could switch that to a pistol.

I would have a very hard time choosing only three. So, I am going to answer this way:

Three hunting guns:
  1. 22lr - Silenced Bergara BMR carbon
  2. Husqvarna Swedish Mauser in 30-06
  3. Custom ER Shaw in 375HH
Three self defense-survival guns:
  1. 22lr Sako Quad custom by GA Precision in McMillan A5
  2. 12ga SPAS12 shotgun
  3. Colt 1911 series 70 combat custom in 45acp
Three SHTF guns:
  1. H&K USP 45acp
  2. Frankford Arsenal M16 with short M4 upper
  3. Sako S20 Hybrid Tac in 6mm/08
But since I live in the USA and enjoy my constitutional rights, I do not have to decide.

Here's my list.

CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery . (new picture soon, Kevin Weaver has added an ebony forend and grip cap for me)

Late 60s vintage BDL in 270 Win, I hunted hard with for 40 years never failed me. It's the rifle on the bottom of the image

For hunting, my three choices would be:

CZ 550 416 Rigby
Winchester Pre 64 M70 Fwt 30-06
Marlin M39 “Mountie” 22S,L,LR

If restricted to 3 of my guns for everything: hunting, self defense, survival both urban and rural:

Custom Remington 700 Proof Research 308
Marlin M39 “Mountie” 22 S, L, LR
Glock 17 9mm

Or

I’d go buy a Blaser R8 with 2 barrels in 300 win mag, 416 Rem Mag. TC Encore with 5 barrels in 12 Ga, 50 Cal muzzleloader,22 LR, 30-06, 375 H&H, then an LWRC REPR MKII 7.62 NATO as my 3rd. :)

Smith and Wesson 317 kit
Remington 870 (iron sighted cylinder choked 20” deer barrel)

Could really get away with these 2 if I stay local in my shotgun only section of NY, but I’ll keep my pseudo scout too.

Hopefully I’ll get a 375 something in the near future to take the scouts place for international and bigger game hunting.

Who’s cheating now?!?! :ROFLMAO:

I’m not going to consider anything except hunting rifles. There’s no way any sane person could have only three guns but they could get by with just three hunting rifles.

CZ550 375H&H
Ruger Guide Gun 30-06
CZ457 22mag

My three must-keeps:

- Browning Safari Grade in 243 Winchester
- Interarms Mark X in 243 Winchester
- Remington 798 in 243 Winchester

You is a funny boy in need of some serious counselling.
If'n that doest work you are not going to enjoy life as you will spend more time tracking wounded game than hunting.
I know come in spinner

If only three long guns for hunting, they would be:

Remington 700 VSSF in 220 Swift
Remington 700 VS in 7mm RUM
Benelli Legacy 28 gauge semiauto

Just about anything I would hunt would be covered by the above three.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.
