If you would like to read an unparalleled account of the Boer War, I will highly recommend "Boer Commando" (An Afrikaner Journal of the Boer War) by Deneys Reitz.
Deneys actually fought in many of the important campaigns of this conflict and the book contains a preface by General Jan Smuts. This is more than an historical account, but a daily journal by one of the ground troops detailing the hardships and the trials Boer guerrillas endured. You may be interested to learn that the "concentration camp" and the "scorched earth policy" were British inventions, not German.
Book details: Sarpedon Publishers, New York, NY. ISBN: 0-9627613-3-8
