Thanks, I have heard the same. I saved some back strap so Ill let you know after I try it. 36% of our cats here carry Trichinosis and 84% in Southern AB so you definitely need to make sure to thoroughly cook it.
I totally agree with you on how far to cook a predator before eating same.
Where I was born and raised (The Soviet Socialist People's Republic of California), the pumas often carried a specific species of tape worm, as well as other diseases, according to the local Game Wardens.
I never new anyone to eat the meat from them back in those days (I defected almost 33 years ago) but, no doubt thorough cooking would have been wise like you mentioned.
We did eat black bear there (actually somewhat common for more than just a few bears to be taken in Calif each fall) and it was common knowledge that at least Trichinosis was rampant in them so, you just did not take a chance on undercooking bear meat.
The chap I mentioned who eats Lynx claims it is one of the best stew meats on the planet, wild or domestic of any species we'd care to name.
Perhaps one day I will be down his way (he moved about 150 miles from where I still live) when kitty stew is simmering in the kettle there, and then I can write something up on it here.
Meanwhile, I look forward to your report on how the Mt. Lion meat fared, one of these days.
Out.
