I shot my big Buffalo with my bow...

I shot this elephant after two hours and half of stalking in a huge and very primary forest.
It's amazing to see how clever and how a 3 tonne animal can move silently even in such area!

We found a very large animal but thay keep the big tisker and he was just at 15 meters from us.
We can not get him because the forest was too dense.

After crossing a river and an other one, we find a very nice area and heard some noise.
Chris, my guide, decide to move in the thick bush and we found two bull. I shot this one on total broadside
with a solid bullet and a 458 lott rifle in his brain. He droped quickly but Chris shoot also in his lungs with
his 416 Rigby.

It was an elephant of 1.35 meter for 22 pounds ivory.

The place was close to maputo at 3 hours drive only.

Picture ONE: At 15 yards a female Buffalo moved with her young.

Picture TWO: At 19 yards the big Buffalo bull is on my right. I have to wait that he stand up to shoot...

Picture THREE: After the two first arrow, the Buffalo turned and I shoot him on his right shoulder. You can see on this picture the third arrow in his heart and me on the left...

Yes Jerome, it was a very nice experience.

To be so close to those wild animals, to arrive at 19 meters and shoot a big male,
see him dying where he was sleeping and after that to see all the herd return back
to the forest slowly like if nothing hapen is a dream...

Hello John, I think that the way that we shoot an animal is the most important thing during the hunt...
Bow or rifle is equal for me if you decide to shoot them close or after a wonderful stalk and if you can
be proud of your game after taking a picture with it...

For me bow is more difficult (technically for sure) but I know a couple of client of mind or friend who like
to be very close and they never shoot more than 35 meters from their game with their rifle...

The rifle that you use, bolt action, side by side or bow and arrow is not the only thing, it's (for me)
much more the way, the spirit and the ethic which count.

Hello it was a P.S.E X Force bow at 29.5 draw with 75 pounds power and the arrows was 650 grains only with 125 grains broadheads...

The first arrow was shot 3/4 fare back behind the last rib and hit the leaver and the lungs,
The second one hit both of the lungs and the base of the heart,
The last one was shot on a broadside position and touched the heart again after to going accross a rib...

He died where he was sleeping three minutes after the first shot...

Thanks, I know that those arrows can be a little bit to "lights" but I have test a lot of times on dead animal
and it's work hard...

It's like to use a 500 N.E and to be afraid of the kick before to shoot compare to a 375 well used.
If a bullet of a 500 NE hurt the stomak of a buffalo nothing will hapen rather than a 375 bullet who penetrate
the heart!!!

With the bow it's the same for sure it's better to use a 90 pounds with 29 inchees draw and 900 grains
arrows, but if you can not use it, you will not be precise and this is what it's count for the bow hunting!

With this NEW 70 pound PSE Xforce like with ALL the other type of NEW bow (Bowtech, Mattews)
the speed count...

5 ELEPHANTS was already took with this PSE X FORCE in 70 pounds (with heaviest arrows) the first year
of it's production!

A 70 pounds bow made in 2010 have the same speed and power result than a 90 pounds made 8 years back...

sorry, I found your answer above and my mind is the same as Yours. I use a Destroyer 70# with an axis fmj dg and 210 grain silverflame . The weigt is 750 grain and the speed is 240 fps.
I will hope this is enough for a dugga boy

Normally, it's enough for such animal but it's better to use as much power as you can IF and only IF you can use it and if you can be accurate with it!!!

The only things to observe is to be enough close to the buffalo to shoot it...

After that, the position of the animal, broadside or not is important, you must know how to shot it and even the with your knees on the ground, not only in a standing position.......

I've used a P.S.E 75 POUNDS X.FORCE with a 650 grains arrow only and all my arrows was enough to kill.

You have to take a look about the law aslo because in some places it's not permitted to use less than a 90 pound bow ?!!??
