I Just Learned “Hunting Is An Elite Hobby”

Well, well, I guess that makes me a real bloodthirsty member of the upper crust. I had no idea, but if they say so----.
@Newboomer
And here's me thinking for all those years I was just a humble redneck country bumpkin trying to make an honest living then over night I become an eleteist in the the upper level of society.
Well I'll be stuffed I hope I don't ever have to give up the Bundy for lattes.
It's a shame my rifles don't match don't match my new status.

There was a author som time ago who hunts or hunted a lot,he said since golf was democratized ,sailing and hunting was the 2 sports left for the upper class since then on.

And I’m doing both…
Yet I don’t feel very elite !

The only thing I am elite at is putting the effort into saving money for trips. I can afford to do this hobby because I live in a modest paid for house and drive cheap vehicles. If I was wealthy I would be doing multiple trips per year.

Definitely multiple hunts a year…

Grew up dirt poor wearing hand-me-downs and worked(ing) manual labor all my life. Still live quite simply with no frills. Enjoy my guns and hunting and if some folks consider that elitist, well, I'll wear the hat proudly.

All jokes aside, I lost the keys to my jet. What am I going to do now? I will probably have to deal with some peasant locksmith.

Sorry for the interruption, but can somebody spare some Grey Poupon ? I've given the staff the evening off and well you know....... We've all experienced this utterly annoying predicament while making a late night sandwich.
@Spearhead
Forgive my ignorance but what is Grey Poupon

@Newboomer
My brother is such a snob he thinks Manual Labour is a Mexican peasant.

Dijon mustard. Good stuff.
@Newboomer
A good dollop of Dijon mustard along with a good spoonful of seed mustard and a big squirter of sweet American mustard and a couple of spoonfuls of honey mixed with a cup of cream make a beautiful honey mustard sauce for chicken.

One thing to consider is the targeted audience of the article. For the average European worker a multi thousand Euro trip to Africa for trophy hunting can be considered the hobby of the elites.

Even deer hunting costs a lot more there than here as public lands for hunting do not really exist. Here in the States we shoot millions of deer each year, something that is inconceivable for Europeans.
@Tanks
In Australia we don't have game seasons any more because of the explosion in deer populations and have trouble understanding that you even have rabbit seasons and all the different seasons for deer like a bow or blackpowder or shotgun etc seasons.

By having seasons where you have to buy licenses it sets aside money for conservation projects. For example the Pittman-Roberts Act designates an 11% tax on all hunting and fishing equipment to be be used exclusively for conservation. We sportsmen and women contribute millions each year through this tax. These funds have restored and reintroduced many species to their natural habitats and do much to improve habitat.
The greenies and other idiots contribute not one penny, yet they blame us for controlling and maintaining animal numbers through hunting and fishing. To them we are "wanton killers who kill for fun."

Page: "Sire, the peasants are revolting!" Lord: "What's your point?"
What is wrong with pheasants, I think they are a nice bird, not sure why anyone would say they are revolting.

That is an elitist joke, all my elitist friends are having a good chuckle about it.
