I’ve looked at several guns on GB with the free safari as a bonus. I read some reviews of the outfitter here on AH and they were positive. Has anyone taken them up on the free safari? Was it a good package or did you have to add lots of additional animals and/or days to make it worthwhile?

Looks like a good excuse to get a new gun to me. “But honey, it will offset the cost of our trip. We’d be foolish not to buy it.”

One has to figure if it's worth three days or more of traveling including thirty plus hours in an airplane for a five day hunt and three cull animals.

I think it would be worth it IF someone was already going to RSA for another hunt or wanted to add trophy animals.

This is an old thread I know but I wanted to put my experience with them out there. The sold me a .375H&H and when I got it, it didn’t meet the specifications that it was touted to have (glass bedded, floated barrel, and a few other items) and when I sent it in they told me it would take them 7-10 days to repair. I didn’t get my gun back for months. Ultimately they ended up changing the stock (from wood to synthetic) and when I inspected the gun it still had no glasses in action, floated barrel. The work looked like a teen ager with a dremel had done the work. If they come back, run away from the opportunity to do any business with them. The day they shipped me back my gun they had a guy email simply saying check our home page for updates on your warranty and all that was there was their notice they were closing their doors. Just thought I’d share.

I tried to order a LH receiver from them. They were very responsive. I had credit card in hand, on the phone. The guy gave me the total and it was $200 more than the website. I told him I wasn’t going to pay that much for a cast receiver, but I would pay the advertised amount. He asked me where I found the price. I told him and he called me a liar, and that they “weren’t selling Saturns here” (is that the car?). So I sent him the link. He called me back and said they were gonna have to talk to their webmaster but in no uncertain terms was he going to sell me the receiver for the advertised price. I told him where he could insert his action.

I say with a sales staff like that...good riddance. Maybe someone will pick it up. I understand that the same place that does the investment casting for Ruger did theirs but that is second hand Internet chatter. It would be great to get another supplier for LH CRF actions. Recently bought a LH Zastava Mauser 98 copy for a DG project.

If I were to build a CRF, it would be with a Bighorn action. It has the Remington 700 footprint/form factor so literally hundreds of aftermarket part that fit. Also the bolt head is interchangeable and they are made in left hand.

Sad and very disappointing situations! My CBSE in 375 H&H is extremely accurate and has worked well for me on my last 3 safaris.
Not that there has been no issues. The action was grinds starting out. I think it was because of the Cerakote. Today, it is slick after many rounds down the barrel. The magazine spring has always seemed a bit wimpy, but it feeds when needed (might be me!)
I simply cannot complain about the accuracy! Outstanding IMO!

I have owned and still own 2 precision actions. One Kelbly’s and still own 2 Borden’s. The Bighorn looks nice, a bit more refined copy of the “CRF” models Savage used to peddle. I’m sure they are just fine.

What I am talking here is ultimate reliability, not so much precision. Think Sako built M39 Mosin. But they never made a lefty.

I called and left multiple messages with them, never got a callback, sounds like I am better off for it.

The Montana Outdoor Group’s subsidiary “Montana Rifle Company” will seek fiscal restructuring.

Kalispell, Montana (Ammoland.com) – Montana Outdoor Group, a private investor group, acquired Montana Rifle Company in early 2019, has announced its immediate closure pending fiscal restructuring.

“While sales of our popular calibers have been outstanding, production levels have not risen to a profitable level to continue, without additional investments,” CEO Calvin Bontrager explained. “New equipment would be required to reach a service level demanded by our dealers and conservation groups.”

Montana Rifle has been producing custom-grade rifles for nearly 25-years and has been awarded “NRA’s Gun of the Year” in 2016 and “NRA’s Gun of the Year” in 2018. Montana Rifle has also produced limited editions for California Waterfowl, SCI, RMEF, and many other conservation organizations.

“With sales of the popular M1999 control feed actions nearly doubling in 2019, Montana Outdoor Group, is actively searching for restructuring opportunities,” Bontrager continued.

Curious. I am finding there is high demand for a working mans double for $8K and a higher end for 10K and with their normal strong bolt action popularity I would love to know how to invest. I would let go all senior management given I run businesses and then streamline production insuring I do not lose quality

Good luck finding machinists, tool makers and machine operators. The entire country has a shortage and contrary to popular belief, these skilled people aren't pumped out of schools. It takes years of learning and even more years of experience.

I was looking at a SCI auction list for the 2023 convention and one of the items was a MRC 6.5 Creedmore. Have they reopened? Just curious.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
