I have become a Rancher

Excellent.

I'd rate this as a good opportunity to brush up on your long range shooting skills. Not for the rhinos, but potential poachers.

A 6.5 NeedMore loaded up with 143 gr ELD-X...prolly just bounce off a rhino, but would discourage the poacher's friends.

CONGRTULATIONS! I think that is awesome and I sincerely hope it works out for you.

How big is the property you now have them on?

Do you have to have constant anti poaching patrols?

Hopefully in the future they make it legal and create a way that rhino ranchers can legally sell horns to help offset costs

Congratulations, that's actually really cool and awesome.

Thanks guys. I have no idea where this might eventually lead but I'm thrilled to be part of it and Rhino conservation.
How does rhino farming work? Do you sell to game ranchers, sell horns? Sell to parks? Or just keep em and breed em up? Super cool purchase! I wish they had of done the idea of letting rhinos go in the NT here.

That is awesome and they are already trained to survive on dirt and nothing to graze. :-). One of my friends in South Africa has a lot of rhino, and in tough times you have to provide significant supplemental feed. He also has 24 hour eyes on them. The expensive part of the operation is the anti-poaching efforts. Good luck and they are awesome animals. I align with Capstick and would not find joy in killing one of them. I love seeing rhino chuffing along. There is something about their gait that makes me smile.

Congrats!
May it be a fun and prosperous adventure.
This may be one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time.

I have some great video of rhino from my friend’s place, but this still picture brings me joy. Absolutely awesome animals.

Looks like you need to plant some cover crop.

You know, rancher shit.

Super cool!!! Congratulations!!! I will reach out to you when I am ready to do another Dart hunt! Also crazy jealous!

I love being around them on the big ranches in Africa. They are fascinating.

I have become a Rancher.

But of course I couldn't become a rancher in the normal way, like cattle or sheep or even ostriches. No. I became a Rhino Rancher. Yep, you heard it right.

A very good friend of mine in South Africa asked me if I'd be interested in going in as a partner in the purchase of a baker's dozen White Rhino from a ranch that needed to thin their herd.

Now the Rhino has always been my favorite animal. I mean what's not to like about an animal that has derailed locomotives just because. So of course I said yes.

Most are females and in fact a couple are pregnant so our herd, with God's blessing, and some protection, will soon increase in size. And there is a little one in the group. Very cool.

That’s really awesome. I love to see direct conservation efforts … my dad used to say “the best way to make a small fortune in ranching is to start with a large one.” Looking forward to progress reports!

Nothing ventured nothing gained..... I hope the world can come to it's senses and let sustainable Rhino farming force the black market to collapse by shredding their profit margin.

Without people like you willing to put their money where their mouth is; this would only be a pipe dream and Rhino would probably be extinct already if not for private ownership and protection.
excellent point.

Rhinos are awesome creatures...nothing like them and so iconic of Africa. Nothing moves like one either.

Congratulations! I commend you for your commitment to rhino conservation.

As a game rancher, this has always been a dream of mine.

Congratulations @Sourdough. What a contrast from Alaska!!

How big is the ranch and is it mostly flat and arid as in these pictures?
The ranch they were moved to is in a much greener area. That's all I can say about it as poachers troll here and elsewhere trying to learn tidbits they can use to identify where there are Rhino.
