I blame Bob N 35 whelen

USN, Bob Nelson 35 Whelen is a friend of mine, so I'm glad he influenced you to a degree. You were lucky to be able to get a "factory" built rifle. I had to have mine made from an '03-A3. She wears a Boyd's Laminated stock and talk about ugly!! However, I know mine shoots. That is if you call tightly cloverleafed shots at a hundred yards good. We have three very accurate Whelens in the family, one a Thompson Center Encore with a Bullberry barrel, a push feed Remington Mod. 700 and mine. I've discovered that accuracy isn't dependent on fancy wood. I hope you come to the same conclusion.

Did not even mention when you look in box paperwork says make sure on cross bolts are torqued, 95 pounds and other 65 pounds. You would think on a $4000 dollar rifle factory would torque, nope not on the mythical 35 whelen. Ask guy at shop to torque, Oh no Sir my torque screwdriver stops at 70 but no big deal just shoot it. We sell a bunch of em Rugers, never knew about the torque thing and no problem yet. I kinda enjoy safe gun operation so I will just order a screwdriver that will do it. Nope no way on Amazon so get my torque wrench but it is 1/2 inch drive so order a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench for one screw. Strange word screw, couple different meanings, wonder which one in my case.
But now proud owner of a 35 whelen.
Make sure to torque the screws or you'll crack the stock!

I feel as if I may have joined a cult. 35 whelen is the cartridge that will not only basically make you a better marksmen but improve looks, intelligence, sexual stamina.
I missed out on the first round of Lipsey’s Ruger African and regretted it and swore if they reissued I would have one, well any under 2000.00. Browsing GB several new ones have pooped up.
I browsed all of them and hot damn one ending on 6 hours and in Duncan, OK. I live in OKC so threw a bid and figured no way I would get it since after the initial allocation they were bringing big money. You know where this is going, I won…wooo hoooo $1500 rough all in.
I am retired so figured I would drive down and pick up so no damage in shipping. Lay eyes on the mythical beast that alluded me the first time. Huge let down, plain as she could be. Kinda like getting a blind date with one of five sisters in my home town. All were drop dead gorgeous, except the one. You guessed it that one came home with me.
1.5 hour drive home with plain Jane in back seat, also had to have the Bog death grip bipod. Now roughly 1850 on the most gawd awful 2x6 piece of furniture and sticky bolt imaginable. One of the other members here mentioned length of pull is a little off so finger on trigger also off.
Return trip home almost made it past the Casinos on I-44,almost, $3850 and still not home yet. During drive decided this piece of engineering excellence is a costly SOB and going to be a retro rifle for me.
Cheap, came with one inch rings so my extra Swarovski 5i’s or Leupold’s with illumination will not fit. Leupold VariX 3 3.5 10x40 from back of gun safe it is. LOP will be addressed with a cheap Tourbon leather lace up stock cover. 4 boxes of 2 different ammo from Optic Planet. $4000 and counting with free scope and rings.
Thanks! BobNelson35whelen, never listen to people from down under, they live their entire lives upside down and have been known to eat vegamite.
Hopefully range time next week, she best be a shooter or the classifieds will get a new listing.
:-) thanks Bob!
@USN
Congratulations on your purchase.
You know if'n y'all didn't stop at the casino you could have got a new stock and 30mm scope rings as well as our a deposit on another hunt.
For less money you could have had a lovely Savage rebarrelled to 35 Whelen.
We may live down under, eat Vegemite and some of us even drink Bundy run but we know a good deal when we see one.
The good thing about plain Jane is you don't have to worry if'n you scratch it. The plain ones usually end up the best with a bit of love. If they are beautiful everyone wants it but plain Jane has beauty that only those with class can see and they remain faithful, dependable and reliable throughout their life.
Beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes all the way to the soul.
Give Jane a chance she may surprise you.
Get hold of some CFE223 and some 250gn Speers so she can shine and show you her real worth. You won't be disappointed.
We may have to change your user name from @USN to @Angel because you seem to be up in the air and harping about something.
GIVE JANE A CHANCE BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN TO MUCH. She don't need a fancy 30mm scope, plenty of 1" scopes that will make her happy. Remember she is a work horse designed to hunt not a pretty girl that is a safe queen that only comes out to brag about her looks.
Jane will make you happy and you will sing her praises when she continually fills your freezer. Then you will sit around campfires singing her praises and admire her in ways you didn't think was possible.
Stop complaining like a school kid that didn't get picked for the game and enjoy life.
Ha Ha ha ha ha

For that money you could have bought a real rifle in .243! :ROFLMAO:
@WI-2021
Real rifle and 243 make as much sense as army intelligence.
Neither exist in real life.
You either have a real rifle
Or
You have a 243
They just don't go together.
Bob

If you believe that you haven’t met Bob yet.

Improves looks? Haha, you haven’t met him have you? makes you a better marksman, wow, improves intelligence this is getting interesting, I’m stopping there I don’t want to know about his stamina.

Look, the smartest thing Bob done is stumble on a good all round calibre that made him a successful hunter. And now we have to bask in his light while he sings praise.

Congratulations on your purchase, I hope it is all Bob has said it is.
@CBH Australia
Chris you forgot about my other love.
A fast 25.
I didn't stumble across the Whelen. I did my due diligence and research and discovered the grand Whelen. All I did was being it to the performance level it was designed for, not strangle it like the factory did.
Owning a Whelen increases your intelligence as you gain great insight into reloading and ballistics as well as elevating your hunting enjoyment. You realise you dont need no fire breathing, bitch slapping, noise making mag none.
One day you will understand grasshopper. You still have much to learn..
Bob

If Bob was an ambassador for Australia imagine what the world would think of us then.
@CBH Australia
Chris I would

I strive for perfection, however, I do not reload. I will never get to be a Deacon, probably not even an usher.
@USN
FEAR NOT MY SON ALL IS NOT LOST.
Hornady does a nice superformance load and Barnes has the vortex range. Federal loads a nice tbbc, buffalo bore does some good loads as well.
So rejoice and be happy.
Just by virtue of owning a Whelen you have already been elevated to deacon. So go forth and extoll the virtues of owning a Whelen.

You got my vote Bob. Oh wait I am not a resident of Australia.

Well if it’s a non shooter you can always go the revenge route…….sell it and buy the mighty .243 Winchester then start praising it with links to Bob:notworthy:
I say never trust a man that thinks bundaberg rum is the nectar of the gods ;) :eek::ROFLMAO:

@Flbt
Just by owning a 358 and loading it properly you get honorary membership to the Whelen clan.
Bob
Thinks I use buffalo boar 250gr and dubble tap 225gr so
When I got the gun I bought 2 cases to make sure I had enough
Don’t have quite as many 356
But also about 3 cases of 170gr interlock for the 350l

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
