Good Afternoon everyone ,
I am a new member of this forum . I am a close friend of two forum members here , Sgt. Kawshik Rahman and Major Khan . Like them , l also live and hunt in Bangladesh , but l used to live and hunt in Shiliguri , India until the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 . I love hunting and always have since childhood ( my sons , daughter and grandson seem to have fortunately inherited my fondness for the art ) and l always will , although l was not a professional shikari like my two friends . While l have shot many species for the pot , my experience with dangerous game is limited to 81 leopards and a single Royal Bengal Tiger . My good friend , Kawshik wrote an article about me on these forums a few months back , with some photographs which l had provided .
I was a Captain in the Bangladesh Shena Bahini during the Liberation War and l retired from the military in 1982 .
Kawshik and Poton have both been requesting me to write a few entries here about how l used to hunt leopards in Shiliguri until 1971 . I see that their exceptionally well written articles have been positively received by most members here ( which is very well deserved . The accomplishments of these two great men can never be rivalled ) , which helped me to feel more confident about joining this forum . I was initially unsure about putting my past hunting exploits to paper , because l thought that modern day hunters may seem some of my actions unethical. However , l was pleasantly surprised to see that both Kawshik and Poton have been able to be very honest and upfront about their shikar days and most members here were very sensible and understanding about the times which we lived and hunted in , during our youth .
I own three firearms ( a rifle , a shotgun and a pistol ) . My favorite rifle calibre for hunting is Winchester's .338 Magnum .
If everyone would like , then l can write my first entry about a leopard shikar tonight on these forums with a photograph or two ( l do have some from that time of my life ) .
I hope that l can contribute to this forum . But even more , l hope that l can learn much more about hunting than the very modest experience which l have now , at the age of 72 .
Yours faithfully,
Captain K.H. Newaz ( Retd )
