I always wanted a Big Bore by Sterling Davenport - a 500 Jeffery custom

I agree. I have several Big Bore rifles that are ported. A real advantage to reduce muzzle lift for faster followup shots.
If you're going to port it, why not put a good brake on from Muzzle Brakes and More and enjoy greatly reduced recoil. I have one on my 416 RM and I love it, use that gun for everything including coyotes, love it .

Very nice!
FYI, that's a Wyatts "CFE" center feed mag box and follower.
The Davenport is identical to a 460 Weatherby follower and magazine box system on a Mark V Action. Looks like Wyatts did some modifications from the Weatherby.

Nice touch

I am taking My davenport 500Jeff to Namibia this year.

Do you have any pictures of your 500?

Very nice - does yours load from the bottom like mine?

I have loaded from the bottom, and I have also slowly loaded two rounds from the top, sliding the rounds back under the what I call the magazine retaining lips.

It is a single stack style of feeding. 500 Jeff in a standard mauser action.

Getting them to work in a standard dual stack is a real pain, And Sterling Davenport really got the single stack feed done right.

Nice blaster! What’s the mag-capacity? 3?

And why not just top-load the rounds in, instead of bottom loading?
The capacity on mine is 1 up and 3 down. The feed lips (magazine retaining lips) on my single stack magazine extend to within 1-/2" of the chamber, so its impossible to load from the top. Sterling did this to insure 100% positive feeding with no chance of a miss-feed or jam. This flawless feeding is necessary when facing dangerous game.

Another lightning strike of marvelous.
I helped an acquaintance start sighting in his Sterling Davenport .500 Jeffery
quite a while back. Much like yours.
Standard M98 with 24" barrel, a lively beast and accurate.
It was an extremely hot day (in Oklahoma), and the load was trouble free with fair-to-middlin' fill of
Varget Extreme by Hodgdon.
Bona fide tropical load for a .500 Jeffery.
Open express sights as they came from the Maker, yet to be sighted in, here from the bench rest:

Written information is too easily lost. Just like the 585 Nyati rifle, this forever memorializes the unique History of the rifle.

And it make the provenance of a rifle , its builder and inspiration behind it also be known for others and easy to see also .

I know there's not much getting around 500 Jeffery's recoil.

But to focus on business end, game or targets are devastating. Whether exploding tangible targets or making tremendous divest in the dirt .. it's impressive.

The recoil of my 500 Jeffery is nothing compared to the recoil of my 475 A&M or my 600 NE.
I also have a 700 NE double rifle that puts both the others to shame.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
