What rifle do you (or did you) have that Swarovski mounted on?

Ruger guide gun in 375. Took it off and put on a VX6 2-12x42. The 50mm objective just was too big and I like the Leupold better. I also like the auto off feature of the Leupold. I've forgotten to turn them off many times and never ran a battery dead yet.

The nighttime side of the switch on the Swaro was not working so sent it back... That took 3-4 months as it had to be shipped home to Austria and back. But it was delivered to the door all packed nice and works good now.

I may mount it on my DPMS AR10 308 light hunter.... Or I've got a 223 version, Prairie Panther. I just don't like how high a 50mm objective scope has to be mounted on a bolt gun and how it prevents a good cheek weld.

Heard a good comment this morning on lighted reticles when leopard hunting.... something along the line of, do you "have to have one"... Maybe not, should you have one, absolutely... The same can be said for anything hunted in the shadows and likely to be shot at first light or last light. It is a technology that is available and a tool we can use, nothing more or less... But the great thing about it on a hunting scope, if it does fail while hunting... You are no worse off than if you did not have it. The scope still works and in the case of a VX6, it is very high quality glass bringing in lots of light and giving you the best sight picture you can get for the money. I can sure think of a lot worse ways to spend $100 than by adding a lighted reticle to your scope.

You know we could all be corresponding via regular mail... But we choose to use modern technology and these computers because it is so much more efficient... but they are really just tools as well. I like to complain about technology also... But I'm sure happy to use it!

@Heym 88 I can sure understand the frustration about a new item not working right out of the box! One expects better quality control than that, unfortunately holding the price down, staying efficient and profitable, and the completion that drives that all.... And gets us the products for as low a price as they are... Also creates some hard to understand (at first glance) mistakes slipping though and getting to customers.

I bought 3 new Ruger guns and one I could not get on paper at 25 yards. I called Ruger and they told me to take the scope off and send it back. They mounted a scope and had the same issue... Called me about a week after I sent it and told me they were scrapping that gun and sending me a new one. This one is a tack driver if I do my part. Shot one 1/2" group with match grade ammo.

I'm sure Leupold will treat you well and you will be happy in the end.

yea I'm not too worried. If they would refund me the $ 100.00 difference I would probably keep the scope and use it as a non illuminated. I'll figure it out by Tuesday.lol.

I am thinking you are saying that to upgrade a VX6 to illuminated, its around $100 more. But looking at Swaroski and Schmidt and Bender, it looks like its about $500 more for illumination. Is this correct or did I just misread it. I believe my Weaver Dangerous Game scope was around $200 more with illum, but still much much cheaper than Austrian or German.

From Optics planet, the Leupold V6 1-6x24 with lighted reticule in $ 999.00 without it's $ 899.00. I called Optics Planet this morning and made an offer, going to check with their supervisor and email me back Tuesday. Either way it will turn out ok.

I am planning on buying a high end (by my definition, about $700 to $2000) in the future, so I am following you and Action Bob closely on this thread, as well as the conversion of a M70 or RSM .375 to .404 J. Hopefully if you make any mistakes, you'll post about them!!!!

Sorry you got a clunker.

Like Bob, I'm a big fan of the IR. I have a leopard that I probably wouldn't have shot without an IR. (At night in Zim) A member here on AH shot and lost a leopard early in the morning with a backlit sky. He couldn't completely see the x in his reticle against the black cat. (I have seen the video) An IR probably would have made the difference. Could something similar happen in the late evening in deep shadows with just about any animal? Considering the cost of hunting, $100 is a cheap investment. If the IR breaks or the battery dies you still have a good scope.

The decision of course is yours. All the best in whatever you decide.

I bought a VX6 3-18 illuminated from Bear Basin - worked fine out of the box and has great glass. I am very happy with mine. Hope you get yours fixed and resolved.

I shot both my buffalos and my elephant using a Trijicon... But it is a 1-4. Works good though. Got it on my 505 Gibbs now... It whacked @matt85 and a few of his friends and other than a few specs of blood on the glass, it survived the punishment of his hard head just fine

I'm going to stick with Leupold and this will get resolved with no problem. I was willing to try a illuminated reticle and I can see the benefit it has. But for me it's not mandatory. A lot of leopards were shot long be IR came out. I'll keep ya'll updated. I do like this 1-6x24.

I shot both my buffalos and my elephant using a Trijicon... But it is a 1-4. Works good though. Got it on my 505 Gibbs now... It whacked @matt85 and a few of his friends and other than a few specs of blood on the glass, it survived the punishment of his hard head just fine

Larry a lot depends how hot Matt had the loads he brought.

That gun sure got my attention the first time I shot it, actually knocked the sticks over and broke a little piece off. Then I figured out how to keep a better hold on it and I really like that gun now... I have a Ruger RSM that was converted from a 416 Rigby to 505 Gibbs and came from up there. That one really barks and kicks back! I "may" take it on an elephant hunt someday as it is lighter. But I like the CZ for hunting buffalo and really want to take it on a hippo on land hunt!

Matt was developing loads for me and the first ones had a bit extra speed on them and even an extra 25-50 fps is very noticeable. It is actually a lot less severe with 600 grain bullets moving at about 2100 vs the 525's at 2300.

In any case, I'm really please to have it and do plan to take it with to Africa a couple more times

Really nice rifle, and I think Matt said the load was 525 bullet at 2300 out of the muzzle.

Ill tell you Bob, I'm in my 60's and I have a bad shoulder, but after seeing and firing that rifle I want one.

Does anyone know if the illuminated Boone and Crockett reticle is useable when the battery fails.I have a VXR which is a red dot but the BR reticle has a much larger illuminated area almost like a Christmas tree.
