"The 1600 and 1900 series was an all new action that’s best described as a modified small ring Mauser 98 derivative. It’s a full length action, unlike the earlier small ring 96, and only ever sold commercially (no military use).

The 1600/1900 uses a different trigger than a 98 due to the unique safety used on those rifles. The tang has additional metal added on the right hand side to accommodate this, so a 98 trigger won’t work without some serious gunsmithing. Huber Concepts does offer a trigger for the Husky, and it’s a good upgrade over stock.

Scope rings are different than a 98 also, due to the small ring diameter forward reciever. Talley makes one piece ring/mount combos, and Leupold 1 piece mounts were also made (not sure if they still are). I think there are also options to use 2 piece bases for a 96 small ring, but you’ve got to be careful on hole spacing.

The ring diameter and extra metal in the tang affects stock fitment as well. Action screw spacing is the same as a 98, but you’ll need in letting and bedding work. Most 1600/1900 rifles also used aluminum bottom metal thats chunkier than a 98. McMillan used to inlet stocks for the 1600 action, they might still"

I'm pretty sure this is accurate. I've got 2 in the safe if you need a specific measurement. I think the magazine is pushed forward like a commercial 98 to accommodate a 30-06.

Like I mentioned earlier, I have been modifing M98 guards to fit he HVA actions.

Have to weld on a section in the front of the box to convert to the longer 30-06 inside length of the HVA action.
The front round boss needs to be shortened, as the HVA receiver section is longer than the M98
The rear top section of the rear wall needs to be modified to fit the HVA receiver.
I also have been changing out the M98 bow with a hinged inside bow release like the 1909 Arg, and installing a hinged floorplate into the M98 guard

This work is not for the faint of heart, but I do it enough for various M98 guards, that I make the special parts that are needed for this. Once the custom work is done and in the stock you would never know what the guard started as

Thank you for the insight. It's very helpful. The guy I'm learning from is a skilled welder and metal smith. Sounds like one heckuva learning curve for me. These are the type of things that I am excited to learn. I would still like to find an original 1640 guard to take dimensions off of.

Well, I found and purchased a full parts kit for a 1600 action. The receiver is cut but everything else is there including the bolt. Not sure if I will re-barrel or leave it with the original 7mm rem mag barrel.

To add to this saga, I found another barreled action with no bottom metal. It has an already installed Huber trigger and a 3 position safety. I also ordered a barrel for my first build and am hoping to have it done by elk season in October

Tickling this thread nearly a year later. Like most things, life has gotten in the way and I am still not done with the build. I was back in the shop last weekend and spent some time fitting some pieces. I've managed to gather enough parts to make a complete rifle and have verified that a 27 Nosler cartridge will, in fact, fit in the mag box and into the bolt face with little to no modification. The feed rails might be a different story which I will have to figure out once I have fitted the new barrel. Thank you to everyone that provided guidance so far. I have learned a TON about these swedish mauser hybrids and love the rifles. Hopefully I can have it done for elk season this year

Are you sure? The 27Nosler is based on the 404Jeffery case which is much bigger than any 06 based cartridge and bigger than the belted magnum cases.
The base of the case is 0.550" with a rim diameter of 0.534"
If it was previously chambered for 7mm Rem Mag @ 0.532" then you might be in luck?

Yes, the bolt was for a 7mm mag. I test fit a 27N case and it fit into the bolt face and nicely under the extractor. I currently have 3 husky actions that were all incomplete in one way or another. All of them have the same size bolt faces. One of them for sure was 7mm mag has the original barrel is still on it.

I haven't fired it yet, but it breaks way more cleanly than stock.

In an amazing twist of fate, I stumbled across a Tradewinds trigger for the Husqvarna action. From what I have heard, they are worth keeping and using.

Well, I got the 3-position safety and Tradewinds adjustable trigger installed and fully functioning today. It still has the old doner .338 Win Mag barrel on it which I need to take off but I'm one step closer to my 27 Nosler elk rifle

Well, today I finished installing the 3 position safety. I found that the Tradewinds original trigger block also served as the over travel stop for the trigger so I had to custom machine a new piece that only serves as an over travel limiter but does not impact trigger function as a safety. After install, I drop tested the new safety as well as hitting the back of the receiver with a dead blow hammer to confirm 100% functionality of the part. I also had to inlet the stock to accept the new trigger. The new barrel is nearly done too. I ran out of time and need a slightly larger pilot bushing for my reamer which is now on order. This Husqvarna is nearly back to life!

Well, I managed to get the threads and chamber done today including headspacing. Chamber turned out really smooth but I still need to polish it. I also need to inlet the barrel channel and turn down the shank about .1" as it's nearly the same diameter as the receiver ring. Slow progress but progress none the less. I did manage to find out that a kick eeze small size won't fit my stock so bummer there
