Hunting Knife Pictures

When I was 8 years of age (1956) I started working in the family meat business. I worked vacations from school and was much more interested in "breaking beef" than anything in the office. The business was sold when the city claimed eminent domain of the property, so I went on to a less strenuous occupation, but obtained work when needed in everything from kill-floor to delivery. The first picture is of knives I used while earning a few bucks, the second are knives used in dressing a few bucks (and bulls).

After I hunted my first Giraffe, I had a damascus knife made as a momento using shin bone for the handle. The knife maker also layed in the original .375 casing I shot the Giraffe with. He used red and yellow copper for the damascus bolster. This knife is a show and tell piece only.

My carry knive is a Kershaw. This knive has barely left my side since I received it as a gift 15 years ago. I have long ago lost count of the number of game that this knive has gutted and field dressed.

Had fun designing this and partaking in it's build. Handle scales are water buff from a trip down under.

just wanted to show that i do like knifes and have a few,wont bore you with them one at a time.the last two i really use,diamond blades.

Boela if I look at that "sakkie" pouch, I can see that that kershaw has worked. Knives are meant to cut, rifles to shoot and "bakkies" trucks to be driven. No use you have a good knife and it is a closet queen. Edward and Ray I see the character in your knives.

That pouch was my very first attempt at working with leather under the guidance of my Father. That same kershaw was used to cut and trim the leather with. It is absolutely no show piece at all, but as you stated - both the knife and the pouch works!

This is usually what i pack in on a hunting trip, these went with last weekend and will be packed in again on Thursday.
Nothing fancy, but pretty effective.
Especially useful is the far right which i made from a broken landcruiser spring and ground it down slowly. welded it up and wrapped it in leather. Perfect for clearing bush and hacking through bones.

The one on the left and in the pic below is on my belt whenever im out hunting...
The wood used to be a bit darker and more oiled... until the missus tried to do me a favour after my hunt last year and put it in the dishwasher... oiled wood and hot dishwasher turned out to be a bad combo...
She was nearly in tears when i took it out as it was handed down to me as new from my Dad when i first started hunting. I oil it often and the wood is still absorbing oil.

Lots of beautiful knives. I have some, but I must say that none of them are in the same league as my old Cold Steel Carbon V Master Hunter. I took a Mora knife on my safari last August and didn't use it at all. However I did use my Victorinox Swiss Tool almost if not every day.
