I don’t see CROSSBOW listed?SOUTH AFRICA
Permissible bows for bow hunting
6. The following are acceptable types of bows for bow hunting-
( a) longbow;
(b) recurve bow; and
(c) compound bow.
(d) Cape buffalo, the-
i) kinetic energy should not be less that 80 ft/lbs; and
ii) arrow weight should not be less than 750 grains;
(c) the minimum permitted arrow length is 50cm.
Huh...... I can honestly say nothing in that explanation improves my assessment of the PH’s management of that follow-up.
It always amuses me that someone who has looked at cattle and never even seen a buffalo in the wild figures out what is adequate to hunt them. I have been around both, and trust me, they are wired somewhat differently than an angus, red or black.
Yeah, conspicuously absent.I don’t see CROSSBOW listed?
No, I think this situation is similar when I used to hunt in Kansas for pheasants and deer. There are regulations, but with a “wink”, the locals/clients can hunt “differently”? It’s all good! I’m not complaining, I just wouldn’t hunt DG with a crossbow. And sure as H***, IF I or someone else wounded a DG animal, I would EXPECT all LARGE BORE (not a .30-06) rifles in the hunt for the wounded animal and NOT somebody trailing behind with a camera! Just MY thoughts and MY expectations.Yeah, conspicuously absent.
@IvW , does this regulation apply to all lands and Provinces in S.A., meaning is this fully applicable to privately owned land? And might it be possible to submit a letter of motivation like one would do for a handgun and receive permission to use a crossbow? With all the other brainless activity that took place here, a less than legal hunt is a pretty short leap.
Pretty much sums it up.Well l'm glad your amused!! Lol.

Got it, thank you.Yes unless the owner of the land is the hunter then there are some differences.
Yes you could apply for a permit to hunt with a crossbow but my experience tells me you will not be issued with one, unless somebody knows somebody and some palms are crossed with silver....
Same goes for hunting from a vehicle or using artificial light in the Eastern Cape for example, both are illegal unless you are in possession of a permit to do so....
If I was the dog, after this ridiculousness, I’d give my owner the double eagle, pee on his leg and get the hell outta there...This is the strangest sensation... I want to say something so badly and I just don't know what to say
The only one that didn't completely screw the pooch, IS The Pooch!
