Hi Mark
I think one of the main price factors will be demand and supply, good example is the price of sable that has come down with the numbers increasing.Different regions also have different pricing on certain animals because of numbers. We can use the springbuck as an example , their numbers are a lot higher in the certain areas like the Karoo or Kalahari than they are in Limpopo.Making them less expensive to hunt over there compared to Limpopo.
Elephants , leopards ( not in SA ) , lions in free range areas are hunted on a permit basis mostly in game reserves with a few permits each year available.Remember even the Kruger National Park of almost 5 or 6 mil acres have fences and is managed in some or other way.Parts of the total cost of the hunt for permit animals will go towards government levies and other reserve cost. Some PG animals might be less expensive at first but levies and other costs adding up making them more expensive than on private land.
There should be others with good input on this.
Regards
Rouan
