Hope you guys enjoy, this was a rather extraordinary and unfortunate situation of following up a poacher wounded wild Wood Bison bull, North America's largest animal.

Good job on the stalk and finishing. Now for the other question. Did they catch the poachers? Bruce

They did, I just received word yesterday I'm to come in and make a statement, as they are being charged. A development that occurred after the article was written, was that we found the same fellows the next day, and Conservation Officers were notified and caught up with them that time.

good job ardent
win win , done a good deed indeed
and got to hunt a bison
ontop of some action practice
what will happen to poachers under Canadian law?

Punishment can actually be extremely severe, for instance they can seize the vehicles, the firearms will definitely be seized, and then generally hefty fines. Wild Wood Bison is a red listed / endangered species as well, so I believe jail time is a possibility.

Depends, on where the animal was being "hunted".
Escapees from the park in Alberta can be hunted legally.

Glad you stopped the critters suffering.

Indeed, and we've done just that spent 2 1/2 years in High Level, unfortunately this fellow was a member of the red listed British Columbia Wood Bison population. There's a herd at Pink Mountain BC with a draw, that as I understand it is Plains Bison, escaped from a long defunct ranching operation that established themselves. The only wild herds in BC of Wood Bison to my knowledge are this one the Etthithun Lake herd, and the Liard herd, neither open to hunting.

Do you still have the Browning 1895 and do you want to sell it? I'm might be interested. If so please let me know and do you have any pictures?
