With all due respect to you and I don't mean to offend, but one of the last places on earth that I as an American will be caught carrying a rifle is in the country of Iran. I don't doubt for a moment that you're telling the truth about the average people in Iran or having taken American hunters over there with no issue. I also don't doubt there are two young kids who went hiking in Iran that are still being detained after more than a year I believe.

To ask me to ignore the political situation is to ask me to set aside reason and discretion. I'm sorry, but those beautiful sheep in your original post just aren't worth the risk to me. Especially since there are so many other places with so many other animals I've yet to hunt where the political situation is much more stable.

I wish you well in your outfitting business, but until the situation improves in Iran I won't be giving that country a moment's thought as a hunting destination.

I saw many hunters from all the word, and feel hunter, your words are very kind, and MUST respect it.

I'll second that one. Europeans may be able to make the trip with some degree of safety, however the American who makes this trip is a fool.

Ya'll do realize that travelling in and around Iran is nothing new for Americans, don't you? Oil??? American businesses have been travelling and doing business there for quite some time. Hunting there has only recently opened up again. Not one incident that I'm aware of has happened to one hunter. Just read the number of people returning and all have said how much they've enjoyed it.

As to the mention of the 'hikers'? Really?? I'm thinking there's more to that story than what is being reported. Who goes 'hiking' in Middle East? I mean really... Who?

I'm sorry but if they were that stupid then they got what they have coming. No different than what happens to the illegals that enter our country.

If a hunter were to go there and something happened outside of his control and he had the gov. approved invitation, there would be all kinds of outcry from all over the world.

Sorry for the rant. I just feel some on here aren't seeing the whole story.

PS Even Idi Amin's old country, Uganda, has been reporting very good hunting.

If Americans are working in Iran in the oil industry they are doing so in violation of US law.

"Effective March 16, 1995, as a result of Iranian support of international terrorism and Iran’s active pursuit of weapons of mass destruction, President Clinton issued Executive Order 12957 prohibiting U.S. involvement with petroleum development in Iran. On May 6, 1995, he signed Executive Order 12959, pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (“IEEPA”) as well as the ISDCA, substantially tightening sanctions against Iran.
On August 19, 1997, the President signed Executive Order 13059 clarifying Executive Orders 12957 and 12959 and confirming that virtually all trade and investment activities with Iran by U.S. persons, wherever located, are prohibited."

I do business with a company in Houston that had the FBI raid their office because their Canadian parent company was doing business in Iran.

I am also in the oil business and have associates and friends that work all over the world even places like Lybia but none ever in Iran.

I am probably being a little too political and I am sure it is a great place to hunt but do not downplay the risk.

Granted it's a stupid question but only because we both know there's hunting there but to the average person who doesn't hunt, it's not. I'm sure hikers would feel the same as you about hiking since obviously there's also hiking to be had there if you look it up.

Actually from what I've seen living as close to Mexico as I do, most illegal aliens from Mexico are treated quite well and in short order are taken back to the border and dropped off on the south side.

As I said to Asif, I'm not doubting that Americans have gone hunting there and had no problem. I also don't doubt that the man in charge of Iran hates Americans. I'm also quite certain that things are getting worse between our two countries and not better with Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons. Not to mention that a couple of Iran's nuke scientists were recently attacked with one being killed and Iran's gov't thinks we may have had something to do with it (and I would not be surprised if we did).

If you want to go hunt there bluefin, go ahead and let us know how it went when you get back.

Dear hunters, what I see in my article a lot of politic. Yes all world know situation between US and Iran.
But I say on more, hunters go for hunt in Iran and back very enjoyed, pls don’t think that it is only my advertising, only my business, I am a hunting organizer, and I respect my job ,my word, my profit and my family. If I say all is good in Iran pls guys respect me as I respect you. Even I am not US hunting organizer but many people in world know me. I respect hunters who go to Iran for hunting. I can not say they are fool people, it will be unrespectable from my side. I even can not say they are HEROS due to Iran is very safe country to be hero))))
Also Iran people don’t hate US people, but hate US politic, but if speak actually many people in world hate US politic, but love US people. International hunter don’t need any interpreter due to hunter always understand hunters, and respect, don’t forget about it.

Asif, You have a lot of great points. I think there is a definite risk in hunting Iran....but there are risks on any hunt...and I think some people put politics aside and just realize we are people who love wildlife, and new places to see and visit...and as long as we are polite and not rude...and of course pay our bills...U.S. citizens are welcome...for the most part...there are always going to be people hating, other people for no other reason than prejudice and racist...heck my brother is a very ignorant person, and you are not going to open his mind to change or new ideas.

I realize our government in U.S. is not perfect...heck I have a lot of problems with it. And I think the media is our worst enemy in this country too. People from the other side of the world watch out news and form ideas based on a bunch of idiots putting on the nightly news. I think a lot of problems financially in the U.S. are media based. I guess like Mike said above...enough ranting and personal 2 cents.

I post on this website...because I have no one talk to in person..where I live about serious huntin issues....but I do like to talk about and learn what other people have to say. And I respect anyones opinion...I don't have to agree....but that's alright too.

Hopefully thing will get better in Iran, Iraq, Pakistan .

American Hunters Head To Iran
Several American hunters have traveled to Iran this season, and they've even brought back trophies. Continuing subscribers will remember our past coverage on hunting in this country and the various challenges that Americans faced going there, including not being able to take a firearm and not being able to import their trophies. Those obstacles have been removed, thanks to recent decisions by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control.

We know of three US hunters who have gone to Iran recently, and we are featuring a full report on what is happening there in our upcoming January issue. The report is by author J.Y. Jones, who also sent us the following photos

Asif, the pictures and videos look like it is a nice hunt. I had read elsewhere that J.Y.Jones was there in December as well as Jim Shockey. Just out of curiosity, what lenght of hunts do you normally run there for say Armenian moufloun and Trans Caspian urial and/or Persian Ibex? And what kind of day rate or trip cost and trophy fees?

Hunt and trip was interesting, soon my article about trip in Iran will be in Ovis and one Australian hunting magazine. Usually for each trophy we need from 3 to 5 days, I advice you 3 days (pretty enough)
We will need also several days for Logistic + hunting license.
Trophy will cost by his length. What the best way send me your email and I send you total invoice. I prepare it for all Armenian, Urial + Ibex.
Remember I will go with you to Iran to guiding you, to help with translating, to take photo and video.
