How many times have you been there? Where are we without experience?

Then there's the guys who are frightened of all the black people in Africa. Now that's pathetic! "Doesn't it make you nervous?" I just roll my eyes.

7 trips, several regions in Namibia. Hope to add Zim. No interest really in RSA. Tanzania is a dream.

I have been 20 times to Namibia so far, and the 21st African hunting trip will be in South Africa at the end of the year.

In the future, I hope to visit the Zimbabwe and hunt in several places like Omay, Dande...etc.

Being honest, I never thought Africa would have been so important in my life and in my best dreams, I never expected to be so lucky. Hunting in Africa is now my main purpose and I work for hunting.

I actually had someone tell me that. Like you I just rolled my eyes, I don’t think anything I could say would change his mind.
To me the rural Africans have been the most likable and for the most part happiest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.

One down, one on deck and one in the dugout.

In September I'll be joining mdwest and others to attend a "PH School". It will be my 13th safari to Africa.

Twice for me with number three in the planning stage. I hope to get to see a multitude of different locations in Southern Africa. I’ve been bit by the dangerous game bug, buffalo namely, so I’m focused on locations with buffalo. Fortunately, that’s the majority of places I wish to see.
Of the people I know who have gone on safari it’s split about 50/50 between one and done, no intention to return and those who have gone back. I personally don’t know anyone outside of the AH community that’s gone more than 3 times. For me personally, Africa has ruined my western US hunting aspirations. Just not interested in those anymore after experiencing Africa. I’ve been an avid bird hunter and shotgunner my whole life and have some bucket list things left to do there but otherwise Africa is my focus. Maybe I’ll take a shotgun to Africa, now there’s a thought.

Literally HALF the respondents have been to Africa between 5 and 20+ times. I love that statistic! It shows the level of expertise members can glean from one another on this forum.

Statistics is far above my expectations.
Fantastic, actually!

20+, 5 countries. Love it and hope to continue as long as I am able.

Once, in Namibia w Dirk de Bod. Once, in South Africa, though that was a post business trip photo safari in some glam camp near Limpopo. Had a Cape Buff hunt planned for Zim, once more with Dirk, but Covid got in the way. Been hunting a bunch in Europe, and of course my home country, but planning to go back to Africa for buffalo and leopard, in particular. The goal is a month-long safari in Tanzania or such, when/if I get to slow down a bit. Africa just grabs you by the soul, if you let it, and you never really get over the beauty of the place.
I absolutely loved my hunt with Dirk at his place in Namibia. It was my first trip and I don't think you could have asked for a better first experience in Africa.

Most clients I know about went once only. Not so many of those who return. One and done type.
Some of my friends are "interested" only. But they "need to collect first all the local species", or they are building the house, or have no time, or have no money at this point, and generally, they will never go.
Those are either priority issues, or moving from their comfort zone issue, or real budget constraints.

So, let's see where we are.

The poll is open without a time limit, and the vote can be changed later.
I have been on 8 and the thing I have enjoyed is going to different hunts in different countries, fence no fence, villagers no villagers

I've traveled to SA 3 times and have done 4 safaris. I'm planning on going every time I can, and while I'm able to do so. Planning on exploring beyond SA, but not sure where and for what kind of animal.

I need to see some of the other parts of Africa, hear such neat things. I have very few animals left that I desire chasing. I want to once again experience the great people and culture, and some awesome hunting experiences you can't get in North America. It is a wonderful place. Been there often enough to feel comfortable in the bush with the PH and trackers and marvel at that work. Perhaps more dangerous game. Budgets are always the issue. Safe hunting to all.

I took my family (wife, son, & daughter) in May ‘25 and had a great time. I was AD military for 31 yrs and retired in ‘22, so based on my schedule, I needed to wait until retirement.
We are going back in July ‘26. My daughter is an RN, so her scheduling is easy; my son is AD military, so his is not.
My plan is to take my daughter for Buffalo in ‘27, and my son when his schedule allows.
I’ll go as the “photographer” for both; I’ve always found it much more satisfying to watch them hunt than to kill something myself. Great memories!
