How many people have a 35 whelen?

I have one Uncle, he is the youngest of 5 siblings, who went the way of the 35 Whelen when everyone else was using the 30-06. I like cartridges which are less commonly used and the Whelen is an interesting one for sure!

That's one Hell of a barrel vice.

LOL The laundry basket was to prop it up just enough to take the pic.
I used the barrel nut wrench to loosen and tighten, along with a 1/2 inch socket wrench with a 3/4 inch socket, and a rear action wrench to get everything off and on.

Hawk what weight will it be all up?
The 1 in 14 twist is a good compromise and will handle up to 310 grainers.
All you need is some CFE223 and speer 250s and have a shipload of fun. Just hang onto it when you touch it off as you WILL BE in for a surprise.

After all said and done, it’s going to be around 9 - 10 lbs, respectively. Plenty good for reducing recoil.
Yeah, I can’t wait to get my hands on some CFE223!
I wouldn’t mind getting 225gr to 250gr Accubond bullets to test her out.

The 250's at 2700 plus makes the Whelen super impressive in my humble opinion.
I was able to achieve 2745 FPS out of my Highwall

The 225gn Woodleigh is another good bullet
If you can't get any cfe223 try Varget, that will still get the 225 motoring at 2,800fps
You could get @Shootist43 to chime in with with his load for the Whelen with the 225gn Barnes, that's another good load.

Whelen at 2750 with a 225 AB is 3800 ft lbs. Can it go faster? 2800/3900 fps.
Let's look at the .338 WM...225gr AB @2900 fps is 4200 ft lbs.

You are spot on Forrest. This is a repeated misuse of data on this forum by fans of the 35 Whelen. The .35 Whelen can never equal the velocity or ft lbs of energy of the .338 if you also hand load the 338 to full potential with modern powders.

The 338 has a bigger case and simply holds more powder. Plus the .338 diameter will have superior SD and BC with 225 or 250 grain bullets compared to a 35 caliber and will hold velocity and energy better at all ranges.

But you won’t stop the cherry picking of this data as it’s gets repeated on here frequently.

We all have our favorites i guess.
