How hard is too hard?!?!

This would be my suggestion. Here in SE KY most guys use atvs, and most sling their rifles and mount their shotguns. For shots under 100 yards a good fixed power scope (with fewer internal moving parts) may prove more durable.
This is how I carry my rifle, slung across my back, so I can lean down under tree branches, and with the barrel mounted sling swivel, less clearance around trees.
I have hunting buddies that use foam pipe insulation on their gun racks, probably to protect the wood, but does soften impact.
I prefer my rifle on me.

it is a disadvantage of big tube scopes. The extra MOA in the 30 mm tube comes from a larger range of movement in the reticle or lenses in the scope. So there are longer springs and adjusters. So small tubes with limited range of adjustment have less to go wrong. As said above, low mag or fixed mag scopes are also more robust. The lenses are smaller/ less weight/ fewer in number with no adjustments to go wrong.

At the distances that you seem to be shooting what about a RMR.

Hhmmm...."How hard is too hard?"...

Well there are too many variables without more information.:

Shooter,?
Barrel to stock,?
Scope,?
Scope "sensitivity"?
Scope mimn - max magnification and BDC if equipped. And with what bullet weight?
Scope parallax single or multiple?
Ammo: factory or reloads and at what FPS and FP at zero range to one's comfort zone max range?
Ammo: bullet soft or solid?
Ballistics:???? ie. Zero at 200 yds or meters; what is the bullet rise/fall at less than and greater than zero range?

The more variables you can control the more precise your shot and shot placement below and above one's zero range.

I prefer 1/8" MIL vs 1/4" MOA Scope adjustments which equals 3, 4, 5, shots touching at 200 yards vs. 3, 4, 5, shots within a 2" - 2 1/2" even 4" - 5" groupings.

Just too many variables and your acceptable accuracy; and your acceptable/comfortable max range.

Taking for granted you have done your very best for optimum:

I'm just guessing if your using factory ammo; it's the shooter and shooter's equipment.

I'm not guessing, I'm bluntly saying you didn't do your homework!!! You didn't do your do diligence to preform all of your checks!!! and calculations!!! to maximize your bullets minimal and maximal performance!!!

Just too many unanswered questions to give you a quality response.

Blaming your 4 Wheeler bouncing around and knocking your scope off....Well,....What’s your next excuse once you've corrected that problem? and when you missed your target.? Again.

I don't mean to be critical nor condescending of your abilities. I just want you to understand there are just to many variables/ unanswered questions/ lack of information to properly answer your questions and to recommend corrective actions.

Once you've have preformed a step by step elimination and can better narrow your information the better, more expertise, information and advice you can receive.

Just my 2 cents and 40 + years experience asking and receiving pretty much the same answer to the question you are asking.

Having had a couple scope go off zero and or go completely south over the years. First scope are mechanical optical devices and are subject to physical forces placed on them. They can and will fail. I took a good solid tumble going through a clear cut in SE alaska and knocked the scope 14in high at 100, how do I know? Later that day I missed a shot at a huge black bear at 200 shot over his back. Checked the scope and rezeroed but never saw him again that trip. Scope was a Leopold (Still holding zero to this day) Last african safari my Wife had a swarovski completely go south. It had been to africa Alaska and several states in the lower 48. Sent it back for repair and it stayed together for exactly 7 shots then went south again. On the flip side Had a entry level Vortex crossfire on a 458LOTT and it had 143 rounds in it when I sold the scope and gun to a friend and it is still hanging in there after at least a 100 shots by him. So go figure. Sometimes a scope was made on Friday the 13th.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
