Hornady CX Bullets

I use the GMX 130gr Outfitter in my 270 win and has performed really great from me. On red stags primarly and this year on a mid asian ibex at 300m and a roe deer at 240 and 290 m.

I have about 200 rounds left before i try the CX Outfitter. Have only recovered 3 and all mushromed perfecfly.

I'd like to get input on Hornady 250 grain CX loads for my Win 70 .375 H&H. Factory Hornady ammo shows 2,700 fps muzzle. For powder, I have a pound each to try of Accurate 4064, Hodgdon H4350, and IMR 7828 (which I use for 180 grain Nosler Partitions in my 200 WBY). CX would be for PG, and factory 300 gr DGX /DGS for DG.

I've seen CSX bullets recovered from hunts I've conducted here at home and recently in AK. I was not impressed with the performance of the bullet. It seems that it just mushrooms a little bit versus a TSX that the petals open up nicely.
They claim that they cause less fouling than other monometal bullets. That's about all I know.

Not exactly answering your question, but still relevant info: I shot some factory Hornady Outfitter 250 gr GMX in my 375 Ruger with a 23 inch barrel. Shooting over my MagnetoSpeed, I was getting 2800 FPS and very consistent velocity. Extremely good for factory ammo.

The GMX is sort of the predecessor to the CX bullet and they are both sort of like Barnes bullets.

The biggest issue I had with the 250 GMX was they had a POI several inches higher at 100 yards, compared to my 300 gr Swift A Frame load at 2500 FPS. For this reason, I decided not to shoot two different weight bullets. Just shoot everything with a 300 gr Swift A Frame.

I use 250 cx in my 375 ruger, 2800 fps , it’s really splitting hairs on performance between TSX & CX imo , H4350 is my go to on reloading stuff , I load 80.00 gr h4350 on everything, in my ruger , and my buddy 78gr in his 375 h&h ( check load data and ladder up or down)

I would expect the terminal performance difference would be small. Between those two, I would go with what shot best in my rifle. I happen to have started with Barnes so have stuck with it for the conventional expanding monolithic type bullets.

Was on the range today testing the 180gr CX in the 300H&H.
I was getting a horrible flyer on every third shot yesterday, but a little extra powder pulled three shots together to .40” today.
Also been playing with the TSX lately.

The TSX was easier to find an accurate load for.
The CX seems to prefer a slightly fouled barrel vs the TSX.
TSX is about 50fps faster.
Both like a lot of jump.
Both run quite a bit slower than lead core bullets at similar pressures.

In a 375, I’d load whichever is most accurate and go hunt a buff with confidence.

I did a plains game hunt last August with a CA Mesa also in 300 PRC, and I used the Hornady outfitter 190gr load for the duration of the hunt. I took big bulls of Eland, Kudu, Waterbuck, Gemsbok, and Impala. I had a total pass through double lung on the eland, and the large Kudu Bull was frontal chest shot which put him down in his tracks. In fact, everything I shot with the rifle and load, absolutely shuttered and were hit extremely hard. I had fantastic performance with this load, and would highly recommend.
