Home workouts for heavy poundage bows

Yeah my high country bows both have dual cams. And my mathews is solo cam do you recommend workout out and shooting everyday? As far as form goes is high shoulder and elbow good?

You are probably going to get many different replies to this question, and all of them may be correct to some extent.

With that said, I recommend shooting your actual bow every day or at least a few days a week to maintain muscle memory and form, and of course practice.... However, if you are trying to build strength up to shoot heavier poundage, I would not recommend shooting that heavier poundage every day. I would work your way up to your goal draw weight slowly, over weeks to months...

In other words, do the workouts to increase strength every other day or 3 days per week... Shoot your bow at a manageable poundage every day or at least every other day on the off days from your strength training... Slowly, and incrementally, increase your draw weight as your overall strength increases...

Right now I'm shooting 70lb and working my way up so probably will shoot 70 lbs everyday

If you are drawing 70lbs. comfortably right now, you should have no problem building up to your goal within several weeks if you strength train regularly... Just curious... Wy are you trying to shoot 80lbs?

Maybe I am a little biased, but consistently doing pull-ups will increase quite a few of the surrounding muscles, and your back.

I would also suggest to not neglect core. So much power is generated from the core, more than most realize.

No many bowhunters “swoll” like Bowmar His wife can probably draw a heavier bow than me! But since it’s his passion you might watch his workout vid to draw heavier poundage

Its all bullcrap!!!

Nothing, and I mean nothing, will increase your draw poundage except for.... pulling back your bow or pulling back bands like a bow.

Bowmar can't even pull back a 200-pound bow, not even halfway through! Even though his being a gym junkie for life. Who's taken enough steroids and who knows what else in his cocktail to change the bone structure of his face permanently!!

Then you have people like Joe Gibbs who can pull back 215 pounds and shoot his warbow mind you, who has never steroids, is not a gym junkie and not a attention whore.

All he does is have good technique, pulls back progressively heavier bows, and warms up with a heavy band.

Yeah I guess those dumbbell workouts definitely didn't help.....

Yeah Bowmar almost shit himself trying to do it. ( I don't think he could even pull back 150 pounds)
And he almost caved in the skull of his assistant while stringing the bow, the string slipped under tension, and the tip barely missed crushing his assistant's skull.

I really liked Bowmar's earlier videos, but I talk him down now, his making a bad look for archery and all hunters in his quest for more attention/fame.

Here is Joe Gibbs the English legend!

Drop your poundage, work on your skills. Same advise I give everyone who walks in to the shop and the first concern they have is more lbs or more speed. I have been involved in archery for 40 plus years, now that I am retired my hobby job is working as a bow tech. Does not matter who you are, how young or how strong you are now the repetitions will catch up with you and shoulder or elbow problems or both will become an issue. If you want to be able to keep doing what you love into your 50s 60s 70s or beyond take it easy on yourself now! Blue Wildebeast bull below taken at 42 yards, Hoyt compound, 63 lbs, 440gr arrow, 125gr NAP Hellrazor broadhead. He went 10 yards, fell on his side and was dead when he hit the ground. Not trying to sound like an arse, but if know the distance I don't miss these days. I missed a few bucks at short range back in the day when I was shooting my 80lb Martin cranked all the down to 82lbs. Sorry for the rant! :p

Dr. Warren strickland shoots a 100 lb bow. My buddy mike shoots a 90 lb proline point blank bow. And there both pretty up in age. It's all about working out and pulling with the correct technique and form and staying in shape to handle that much poundage.

What you say is correct, that stuff helps. But Its hard to use the correct technique and form in a tree stand when a buck comes in at the wrong angle from the wrong direction, you have a bunch of clothes on and have been sitting in 18 degrees for three hours. One adrenaline powered draw cycle in that situation can tear a rotator cuff. Everybody ain't the same, my advise is sound.

I would rather draw back and blow a opportunity than my shoulder.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris
