Great pics shared by all! Until recently I hadn't payed much attention to Hippo, but have seen quite a few hunts on tv shows recently, and now looking at this thread I may need to put one of these critters on the future wish list!

Zimbabwe, in the Zambezi River, Chewore North concession to be more exact.

I'm not sure what I'm doing yet. Part will depend on the leather and how it really turned out. Boots, scabbards, or an ottoman even have all crossed my mind.

Less than I thought.... There were four panels that size and the total was under $700. I've talked to someone who had a hippo tanned here in the states and it was a good deal more than that.

The true proof will of course be in how workable the leather is, but I'm really happy with how it looks.

Jaws! When hippo bulls fight they show no mercy! Incredibly powerful jaws that do serious damage. Luckily they have thick hide, but sometimes its not enough to ward off a huge tusk.
