hey guys,

im a PH in C.A.R. the last season ive found it a necessity to use better walkie talkies for communicating with my African trackers/ drivers. does anyone have advice on a good, high quality model? im sick of using cheap ones. i dont care how much a good pair costs.

If anyone has suggestions, please let me know!

thanks

I use Motorola ones, have for about 4 years. Seems like they were about $50 each. I can be sure that they are not legal in SA but they work great.

Just my experience and I am no radio expert.
My group uses an older version of these. We only have 2 Watt versions.

We have found the 5 Watt versions much better.

Kenwood TK-2140/3140 Portable Two-Way Radio
VHF/UHF FM Portable Two-Way Radios

May want to be careful on UHF and VHF units. The air control and sea rescue guys use different freqs than in North America.

Definitively, Garmin Rino 655T, about 18 miles reach, solid and reliable, very high quality, sms included as well as the possibility to send pics. It has good camera and a positioning system that allows you to position the other radio vs. your position.
I am using it for red deer hunts over large territory with my friend and it is priceless.
They cost approximately 600 $ apiece, expensive but you will never get anything better!
