Ok, thank you all for the warm welcome.
Sorry, been busy.
So I have hunted for only a year so far, here in Bavaria for roe deer and fox and wild boar. I've gotten 5 roe bucks so far, missed a boar and have seen foxes all through the summer, but now that it is winter time, and their fur is at its best, they just seem to have vanished. So for this year I have given up just yesterday, because they are just out of the mating season.
Legally you are allowed to shoot them all year, but I just don't want to risk shooting a pregnant female. So Ill wait for next november...
I own a Sauer 404 in 7x64, and a Savage mod25 in .17 Hornet - that one for the fox, as not to damage the pelt.
Also a couple of shotguns, one for hunting, the other one for trap shooting.
As I work as an airline pilot, I have managed to get the trip to Capetown twice (it is highly sought after by the staff) and both times I had Joe daSilva from Capetown Hunting take me on a one day hunt.
The first one I was going for a springbock, but they needed elandmeat there, so I got to shoot one, too.
And the second one was after a gemsbock, which I consider to be one of the most beautiful antelopes of all of them. That day was quite exciting, and ended with a shot outside of 200m. I had never taken one for that distance, but I hit right and the gemsbock only made it another 30-50m.
I love the countryside down in southafrica, it is amazingly beautiful, and the people were all relaxed and friendly.
So I am looking forward to going again,
Nic
PS: The footwear looks just about right for the Schützenfest. The brush of hair on the hat is from an alpine chamois. They call it the beard here, but it is actually from the neck/back area.
