Hello guys,

I'm Erick Pittino, 22 years old born in Italy. I'm a hunter in Italy since when i was 5 years old, and I try also to learn how to hunt in the Black Continent. I've been in Africa twice and I collect few trophies and also a little of expirience during the time i spendt there (in total 50 days). I'm not considering myself as a great trophy hunter, I preffer to "hunt and earn" expirience, and then the trophy if I get it well, otherweise, no problem, next time will go better. I'm a proud owner of various rifle such for example Weatherby Mk V in 300 Wby, 416 Wby and 460 Wby, Duarme 375 H&H, Merkel B3 9,3x74 R, Browning BAR 30/06 and few double and O/U in 12, 16, 28. I hope to learn a lot in this very nice site. Thaks to all who will help me to grow in the beautiful and unique African heaven.

Hi Guys,

thanks for the replies, I've been in SA twice, and I hunted in 2 different farms (one in the wild Soutpansberg and the other in the flat), both in limpopo area. Here attached you can see few african pictures. Soon I'll upload also Alpin hunting photos.

nice photos, what rifle did you use when you were young?

I used for long time a Sauer 80 in 6,5x68 S for roedeer hunt, after I start to use a 300 Wby that for the european big game gaves me the best result from 10 m to almost 400.

is that the 8x68s necked down 6.5? as i have never heard of that one before....

Yes Mike, is the 8x68 S necked down to 6,5 and is a very very fast cartridge, with commercial reloads (93 grs and 127 grs, both RWS) is reaching 1150 and 960 m/s. My father before and then I, reloads this caliber with a 100 grs bullet at 1120 m/s, that is a very good medicine for roedeer, and Chamois (Rupicapra Rupicapra). Moreover, this caliber was widely used in the alps in '60 through '80 for the mentioned hunts. Is a little sensible to the lateral wind, but nothing is perfect!

thanks Erick i did just google it as i thought it would be a fast little number if it was the 8x68s necked down. sounds like an interesting one . do you still use it?

Yes, my father still use it. Actually I preffer my 300 Wby, just in case I have to shoot also to Red Deer in the twilight, 'cos on the 300 Wby I have a zeiss 3-12x56 that is more luminous and permits to shoot also at 400 m with no so much light.

I used also my O/U express in 9,3x74 R for driven hunt of red deers and wild boars, with very nice results. About big bores, what do you think of 416 Wby and his big brother 460 wby?

well you have one of my favourite cals there with your 9.3x74r. my double in that is my love affair rifle the 9.3x62 is my other favourite and what is my every day rifle(a heym full stock carbine) when on the reserve. i havent any experience with the weatherby cals and have never been interested in them as a friend who builds rifles in the uk bought a .460 when they came out and shot it once and put it straight in the rack for sale, and said never again! i know jaco loves his .460 but i am delicate compared to him basically i havent ever had the chance to see any weatherbys , maybe 2 who belonged to some other italians who were hunting with a friend of mine in zim years ago. i have had 4 rigby .416 rifles and that is a great round. i have 2 .458lotts and am waiting to go get a cz custom .500jeffery i bought at sci while being led astray by 35bore after too many bloody marys!!!!!!
