Help with identifying a Mauser action

That is up in the air my father makes custom muzzle loaders I think I'll get a piece of wood from his supplier and go from there. He said he'd help me.

I have one of these Santa Barbara's in 30 06. nice rifle , great wood smooth action. I brought it for the scope, had a vintage Redfield on it i wanted to put on another rifle then i figured to sell the gun. At the time i thought it just another yugo or some German or FN job. but like you i was perplexed by just finding the serial number. After tearing it down i found the Spain mark and did some online research and found out it was a Santa Barbara commercial made in the 50s and there decent guns. I took it to the range and it was accurate and over all a nice well made rifle for what it is. with 350$ price tag. with the scope , im guessing it was some guy's old hunting that got sold by a family member after he died. probably his grandson traded it in on a glock. LOL. anyway just chiming in on the subject. i decided to keep it

That's a mixed bag action right there. It's a cheap Parker hale receiver, mixed with a zastava bolt, a German military bolt shroud with waffenamt markings it seems, military cocking piece, and a military bottom metal.

I'd use that as a paper weight personally, with the money it takes to build a decent custom gun on it, spending a couple hundred bucks more on a good donor action is a no brainer.

I know that it's a mixed bag but it has good heat treat I checked it my self and it checks out at 26 RC.
This is a low cost project I'm doing all the machining myself the only thing I need to buy is a barrel.
I have turned the military shroud into a fairly handsome 3 position safety for another gun and plan to do the same for this one.
I am only doing this project because I already have parts on hand.
If it works I'll look to doing another with better parts.

May just take the easy way out and order a Boyd's. I am cheap no frills person.

I dont think you will be disappointed with Boyds..

When we "sportered" a mauser for my wife earlier this year we went with boyds.

Other than having to mill out an area so the bolt handle could close properly, the action and barrel dropped in perfectly. No additional fitting required at all..

Its heavy.. but thats not going to be a bad thing on a big bore like you are building..

and boyds stocks are rugged as they can be.. I've got them on 3 rifles currently and am considering putting a boyds stock on another one now.. I've exposed them to wet, mud, heat, etc.. and never had a problem out of any of them..

They make an excellent product for the money IMO

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
