It looks like i'll need to buy one of their bases to put on the rifle and then mount the rings on the bases? There seem to be a handful of options if i am understanding it correctly.

Has anyone done this that can give me some help? The bases look like they have different screw sizes (6-48 and 8-40) and then asks about size of base with the options being standard, extended front and dou le extended front. What the heck?

Then on the rings themselves, they ask about what height i would need for a 42 bell on the swaro z6i scope. I would prefer as low as will allow the bell clearance but i have no clue what that would be.

My Swaro Z5i+ with 42 mm objective fits on my Pre 64 model 79 with low rings. Teh bolt handle is very close to the scope when in the up position but doesn’t clear it. Some people might not like it so close.

As for bases I recommend calling Talley tell them what you have and what you want to do they’ll send you the right thing. I’ve had better luck with that than their website.

Hi HFBBQ! Yes, you’ll need Talley bases for a Winchester Model 70. Here’s a YouTube video that describes how to tell which size you need.

Regarding ring height, order the low. The6 should work. If not, return them and order the mediums.

You very likely need the extended front base. If you get a regular size one, you'll likely not have enough room to set the scope back. The bell on the front will limit the setback. The extended base will give you more room by moving the ring further back.

You may get some of the base overhanging the ejection port at the front but not enough to cause issues. At least that's been the case for me when using Warne bases/rings.

You will need .330 space base.
Best option. Call Talley. Tell them gun and scope. They will get you set up correctly.
I do it all the time. Service there is top notch
Yeah , calling them is the best option, as on my Remington action 375R it took two tries to get mine right ( second attempt was free of charge)
Then my pre 64 M70 we kept having to reverse the bases and rings because I was running out of elevation on the scope, and finally I got tired of all the assembly and disassemble( like putting a puzzle together)and I added some shims to solve the problem .
After changing out the scope again I just kept the shims under the base
Zero issues.
Buying a digital torque wrench to avoid Loctite was a big help also

I have that same setup but with a z3. I really like it.

What is the objective lens on that z3? Do you see the rear or front iron sights at all?

Which bases did you get? Standard, extended or double extended?

Get the Alaska rings. Talleys suck.

@bohannon looks like he has the Warne version QD setup. You can see the front base is extended a bit over the ejection port, roughly 1/2". The last I looked Warne only offered one version of the extended front base.

Ah you're right. I do have the warne rings and base, that's my mistake. I remember looking at both when I was setting up this rifle.

@Hornedfrogbbq no, you don't see either of the iron sights through the scope.

Two piece Talleys are the ones I think suck. I used a liberal amount of blue locktite and the correct torque on a 340 Weatherby and the scope hit me in the head on the 5th shot. This was a 1 inch 3-9 about 10 years ago.

I bought a m70 375 that came with them on a 1-6 30mm scope, and I went through the same procedure.
