Hello from Texas

Welcome from just north of Austin! Lots of Texans on here as you have already seen. Go to one of the local SCI gala events and you will be overwhelmed with info and 100 different ideas of where to go, what to hunt, and who's PH is the best :)

My guess is that going on safari will likely be the best thing your family has ever experienced. If I could afford it, I'd be on safari every year...

Welcome from Texas! Let me know how I can help

Hey guys I wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I'm Brian from San Antonio, Texas and I am really looking forward to visiting Africa. I want to visit with my wife and 3 sons, but not sure where i want to go, or even what i want to hunt. Its making me laugh how bad I want to come and experience Africa and I don't even know what animals I would like to hunt. Just think it would be a great trip for the family before they start leaving for college. I love to bow hunt and rifle hunt in the US, but pan on rifle hunting in Africa. My wife and kids would like to hunt also so that a huge plus. Anyway just wanted to say hello, hope everyone has a wonderful 2025!
Welcome from a fellow Texan!
Don't make a list. Just go and have a great safari.

Welcome to AH Brian, from Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Bringing your family on your Hunting Safari is awesome!
The Eastern Cape offers a vast array of plains game, and we're situated in the heart of abundant hunting territory.
If you're unsure of what you'd like to hunt, take a look at some of the packages available. You can always add in, or swop out too.

It's an exciting adventure! Enjoy the planning and researching.
Shout if there's anything we can do to help.
Best regards
Marius

When you have a spare minute, I invite you to take a look into the Khomas Safaris website.

Welcome to AH, we cannot wait to share our passion and continent with you!

Thanks AB we are actually in Boerne. Probably plains game for the first trip with wife and kids. Would like to return later and do a more remote/wild hunt for dangerous game and cats.
Bryan I just joined the group too and I live in Boerne also!

Welcome to AH! I’m about an hour south of you. The Alamo SCI is having their Gala on February 27. https://sciofsanantonio.com/annualgala/
DSC South Texas is having their Gala March 22. https://www.dscsouthtexas.org/

I just went last night to Rebecca Creek Distillery for a party with Phillip Bronkhorst Safaris. He will be in town until Feb 9. I can give you his number if you’d like.

I did not know there was an SCI group in San Antonio! Looks like the individual tickets are sold out. How can I attend?

Great to hear what towns around here host shows?
Welcome to AH, fellow Texan! I know Boerne well - we used to live in San Antonio and one of my oldest friends lives in Boerne now - beautiful country!

The easiest show to attend out of Boerne is the Texas Trophy Hunters Association Hunter's Extravaganza show in San Antonio August 15-17, 2025. There are usually 10-15 African outfits at those August shows, and that's how I researched and booked my first safari (though it was at the DFW show - they hold shows in DFW, Houston, San Antonio all in August). It's a great way to ask questions and meet with people you might be hunting with in Africa. Plus you might meet some of their clients and hear about their experiences.

Planning a safari is a journey in and of itself, so enjoy it!

I guess you could contact their office. Maybe they know someone who will sell theirs or let you join a table. Quien sabe?

San Antonio maybe sold out but the Hill Country chapter is not yet. Dinner is in Kerrville near main James Avery.

Boerne (78006) and Fair Oaks (78015) zip codes fall into both San Antonio and Hill Country chapters marketing zips codes.

I’ve been to San Antonio several times, it’s never been well attended. I suspect now that SCI HQ is in San Antonio that might change. South Texas DSC in San Antonio has been the premier event.

I did the “not knowing what I wanted to hunt once” it was probably my most stress free safari I’ve had. I knew how much my wife would let me spend and if I saw something I liked I shot it. Then she talked me into a waterbuck. On a later safari she talked me into a gemsbok. Hopefully she’ll talk me into something grand this year!
A good family destination is Game 4 Africa in the Eastern Cape. Several members here have hunted with them.
Pick an outfitter you click with tell him your goals and go from there.!
Enjoy the time with your family in Africa, it’s a magical place and welcome to the forum!

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
