Hello from Michigan

Hi Everyone!

I have been reading AH for a few years, learning about the big bores, leading me to get my CZ550 in 375 H&H right after I found out they were being discontinued. Well, a few weeks ago I visited the classifieds and just could not turn down a few beautiful rifles I found there. I have now met a few very helpful, knowledgeable people on the forum and am excited to continue learning and growing.

So a little bit about me. I’m in my early 40’s, have a wife and two elementary kids. I have been hunting since I was a teenager, usually teaching myself along the way. I really got into it to be honest, because my grandpa was trapped in a nursing home and told me about how his missed his mom’s squirrel pie. Well, 5 or 6 hunts later, I bagged a singular squirrel and had learned a lot about being still and quiet in the woods and about perseverance. I also make a pretty darn good game pie.
Anyway, fast forward about 20+ years and I have had the great luck to hunt whitetail, elk, wild boar, ducks, geese, pheasants, etc. I am going on a bucket list hunt to Poland in two weeks to hunt red stag, which has been delayed 4 years. Africa is big on my list, but may be a few years. Caribou in Alaska is also a big one. I would love to moose hunt, but it’s probably out of my budget for now.

Anyway, looking forward to the years of advice and future friendships to come. Thank you for creating such an amazing place!

I have attached a few pictures of me hunting and some yummy recipes I made. I’m not sure if you have a recipe section, but that is one area where I am thrilled to share.

Thanks! HunterXView attachment 632216View attachment 632217View attachment 632218View attachment 632219View attachment 632220View attachment 632221
What part of Michigan? I am Northwest of Grand Rapids

Glad you decided to post and not just lurk. :)

Welcome to AH!

@HunterX - Welcome to the AH Forum and I hope you like it here — I certainly do.
I also like your photos and especially your Elk & deer…both look like they were “earned” and you appreciate them. If that whitetail was taken in Michigan - on a nice cold day - What a nice memory !
They were all earned for sure. That wild boar was 350+ pounds and I had to lift it up onto a 4 wheeler …twice! Apparently we didn’t strap it down well enough and when we stopped it rolled right off the front. Ha. Good memories.

Thanks! I’m from around Brighton. 40 minutes east of Lansing and 40 minutes north of Ann Arbor.
Nice.

Good luck hunting

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to message me. I will be happy to share my experience with you.

Greetings HunterX,

Khomas Highland Hunting and Fishing Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

I share your enjoyment of cooking wild game (and fish) recipe’ hobby.
For myself personally, game meat and wild caught fish are such real delicacies that the preparing and eating of same is half the reason I am drawn to hunting and fishing.
The other reason is that I enjoy spending quiet time in the wild places of the earth.
Well ….. quiet time except for the occasional very loud boom from my rifle.:ROFLMAO:

Anyway cheers for now,
Velo Dog.

Thanks Velo Dog. I hunt for the same reasons. Sometimes for solitude, sometimes to spend time with friends on adventurer, always to share the rewards of a hard hunt.

Welcome to AH. Great to have you here.

Welcome to another Michigander..............I'm located in Troy.

Hello! I see we got a few from the Mitten! Im in Metro Detroit and Im heading to deer camp in Alcona co in a few weeks.

Welcome to the forum.

:unsure::unsure::unsure:......A Food Thread.....Interesting...

Such a OP could possibly create more threads than Politics.

At least the threads even the not so good threads would have better taste (pun intended).

How about starting the OP with that squirrel pie your grandma made and that smoked sausage.

Welcome aboard!

I live 30 miles north of Detroit.
It seems we have many AH members from Michigan!

Welcome sir!

Welcome from another Mitten Member. From the sunset coast side. You're gonna love it here. Just be prepared for all the enablers. My bank account may never recover!!

P.S. Altitude, a big bore get shoot/get together would be fantastic. I'd certainly be in if at all possible.

Any Michigan Deer hunters in here besides me? I deer hunt in Michigan but also in Iowa, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana and Sask Canada

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
