Hello from Arkansas, I'm like treedog61 I have hounds and enjoy this site to get my fix on Big game hunting on the DC. I have never been to SA but would like to someday. I have a couple of rifles I would like take animals with that have a little African history to them. First is a Gil Van Horn rifle in .308 Norma Mag and the second is a H. Scherping Hammer drilling in 16x16x9.3x72r. The Van Horn I stumbled up on in a local gun shop a couple years ago. The Scherping I bought from Russ Gould a few weeks ago. He bought it from PH Mike Bunce at Russell Caldecotts place so it would be neat to take it back and take a animal with it.

Thanks,
R. Marshall

Welcome to AH. Glad you are getting your fix.

Welcome to AH sir. Where about in Arkansas. I deer hunt down around Monticello AR.

Welcome to the forum! Oh how I’d enjoy having a drilling like yours to take to Africa. A May combo hunt for birds and a few plains game would be grand!
Quit dreaming and start your plan to go. You won’t regret it!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to AH!

I'm in Northeast Arkansas and do most of my deer and turkey hunting north of Ravenden Springs on the Jane's Creek.

Thanks for all the "Welcome to AH"!

The vintage photo and big Cape buffalo pic threads are amazing.

Hope you will share some of your deer camp stories.

Welcome to AH. Stick around a while and enjoy reading the Hunt Reports and seeing photos of the trophies taken and you will soon be posting your own. I do have a question concerning the rifle caliber you mentioned for the Drilling. Are you sure it is not a 9.3 x 74R or a 9.3 x 62. Both of those are standard whereas the 9.3 x 72R is unfamiliar to me.

This is what 9.3x72R looks like.

Welcome!

My wife and I do a bit of hunting in Arkansas every year.. She'll actually be in Northeast AR this weekend (a little west of Jonesboro) doing some snow goose hunting (I am unfortunately out of the country right now and wont get back home until after she is already hammering the honkers, or I'd be there with her)...

Welcome welcome welcome

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
