Hello all!

Thank you for your service. Perhaps consider Namibia. I’ve been there twice and don’t know how you could improve on the experience. Really enjoyed the Kalahari and the Khomas Hochland—vast, rugged, splendor. Enjoy your quest!

Welcome to AH.

Thank you for your service and congratulations on your retirement! Welcome to AH.

Welcome aboard mwindaji. Lots of Vets here. Your best bet is probably a plains game package. Both large and small animals should be included. Mine was a 6 animal hunt from Kudu down to Warthog. Once you get the lay of things you'll be figuring out how to make your second and third trips a reality. What caliber rifles do you own? What have you hunted in the states?

Welcome to AH !

Recently retired military member here. 25 years of other people's priorities....
Loved (almost) every minute of it but its time to start living my list.
I've hunted in the States since a young man but look to soon add the birthplace of all hunting to my book. I was told that this place was a good source of experience, hard won wisdom- and a good nature (all very important to me).

Looking forward to the mopane smoke....
Welcome mwindaji. Have you considered Namibia for your first African experience? Still the safest and most stable country in Africa. For the finest in old style, free range hunting, look no further. North Western Namibia is home to Kudu, Oryx, Mountain Zebra (beautiful and very challenging), warthog and many more critters. And definitely mopane smoke....

First and foremost: Thank you for your service.
Welcome to AH. As you’ve noticed, there is a lot of great info here.
It depends what your priorities are. For a lot of people, a plains game hunt is a great place to start. For that, Namibia or South Africa would be great places and the least expensive.
A buffalo was number one on my list. I did Zimbabwe on my first hunt.
As Ridgewalker suggested, pick YOUR top three animals and research and plan accordingly. After that, take what Africa offers.

I would love to do a classic Buff hunt in Tanzania...
Honestly though plains game anywhere (as a start) would probably blow me away. Suggestions?

mwindaji,

Thank you for your service.
It is much appreciated to say the least.

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia welcomes you.
Tanzania is from all I have read, one of the very best places on earth to hunt and fish.
If you make it there for buffalo and/or any other species, we will enjoy your report on same.

That said, several Namibian safari companies offer both dangerous game hunts (Zambezi / Caprivi area) and so called “plains game” hunts.
Some of us offer all the above, on not-high-fenced, huge tracts of “bush”, (as the “off road” places are known in Africa), including fair chase hunting during game migrations.

To continue my crowing about Namibia, and specifically about my outfit, we offer rifles for clients not wanting to travel with firearms as well.
These are; 30-06, .300 Winchester, .375 H&H, .416 Rigby and .458 Lott.

No matter what country and Safari company you settle on, do not give up your dream of hunting Africa.
It is like no place else on earth, not even close.

Regards,
Paul.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
