I’m in Midland. My Texas hunts are normally quail in the panhandle and deer in S. Texas, although I’ve hunted aoudad in the Davis mountains. That’s a beautiful area in its own wayWelcome to the forum. Where are you out in West Texas? I'm in Houston but my Mom and Step Dad lived out in Van Horn for 40 years before he passed a couple of years ago.
He shared hunting rights on zillions of acres of ranches out there with the owners and was the largest outfitter for mule deer hunts in the region. I spent a lot of time out there.
Welcome! I’ve got a place out in Jeff Davis county and have hunted auodad out that way in a few places, including the Chinati mountains south of there. All really beautiful country as you said. Reminds me a lot of Namibia. Enjoy your trip to Tanzania - you are starting at the top!I’m in Midland. My Texas hunts are normally quail in the panhandle and deer in S. I went to the University of Texas in the early to mid 1980's and half my fraternity were Midland guys...a mix of Midland High and Midland Lee grads. The Midland Lee guys who were a year behind me had won the 5A State Championship their seniors years.I’m in Midland. My Texas hunts are normally quail in the panhandle and deer in S. If you were a BETA at UT, then we know a lot of the same people.I went to the University of Texas in the early to mid 1980's and half my fraternity were Midland guys...a mix of Midland High and Midland Lee grads. My step Dad and Mom grew up in Houston. They went to high school together in the late 1950's and early 1960's, were good friends, and then re-met at their 20th year high school reunion and got married.
He loved his time hunting out in the Davis Mountains and decided to move out there and get out of the oil industry rat race in the mid-1980's. They spent the rest of their lives living out there with him becoming a successful mule deer outfitter.
Yes I was and I bet we do!If you were a BETA at UT, then we know a lot of the same people.
I am laughing out loud about Jeff Howes teaching you to drink beer....that surprises me not at all! Jeff was always a lot of fun and a damn good golfer. If remember correctly, he was the Budweiser student rep his Junior year. I also laughed at Boud is Boud....yes! That is great to hear about Craig McDonald and his son. I didn't know Rob...he may have been either too young or too old for us to have crossed paths.Goodness… I was right. We know a lot of the same folks. I’m 40, so quite a bit younger, but here we go.
Served on a board of directors with Devin Alsup, my first job was at hurricane creek country club where Jeff howes taught me to drink beer, lance langford (working for Brigham) told me my first oil and gas idea wasn’t stupid (he was Craig Mcdonnold’s little brother in Beta). Jay Floyd quit drinking about the time I got to midland, so I lost track of him. Craig McDonnold and I have hunted in many places together, including Zimbabwe. His son Gunner is an accomplished hunter in Camaroon and TZ. Kyle is the executor of my estate in the event of my untimely death. Boud is boud. We’ve fished port O’Conner a thousand times together.
You’re missing a big one, Rob Porter, who I office with. He’s on the TZ safari right after mine.
Small world
welcome to AH! I am from Water Valley, TX. Hope your next safari is a great one!Hello everyone. I’ve read several threads on the forum, and decided it’s time to join. I’ve been to Africa twice. I took my wife to SA with Wild Wildabeest in 2013 and I went back to Maninga Zimbabwe with Desfountain and Jones in 2015. I will be headed to Mbarangandu, Tanzania with Cloete and West in August of this year. I’ll be taking .375 H&H and .300 magnum. I can’t wait!
