Haven't even left on my first trip to Africa, already planning the next!

You'll make memories that will last a lifetime and even longer, you'll have no regrets !

Have to agree with what Jeff is implying... Make memories for your kids' lifetimes. And hide the tear in the corner of your eye while doing it;)

I can empathize. I am already planning the next one also.

Gizmo, what draws us there?

Wow what a question but I'll take a shot. I think it falls into three categories. 1) The adventure spirit. 2) Instinct. 3) Spirituality.
1) I remember when I was about 8 years old I read an article in a magazine about elephant hunting. From that moment on Africa and especially dangerous game has haunted me. I began reading everything I could on Africa, it's animals, culture, and history. I grew up reading of Capstick who I immediately began to idolize. Raurk, Selous, Meinertzhagen, and Wally Johnson all became people I admired. Africa has been in my dreams every since. I spend day and night in the long grass in my mind. It's the last true place of adventure. I will take my first steps on African soil this June but I feel like I have been there my whole life.
2) I think people are instinctively drawn to Africa. It is the birth place of the Human species. All life originated there. We as humans are predators by nature. Our eyes face forward and we have sharp k-9 teeth. Our hunting and surviving instincts were all developed and perfected by our ancestors in Africa. I don't think anyone ever really visits Africa. We return home after a however many hundred thousand year absence.
3) I have been told that the Garden of Eden is believed to have been in Africa. This makes since to me as it is believed that all human life started here. This was the place that God chose for us. There is a certain amount of a spiritual draw that calls to me.

way to go brushmore, your just doing the norm. only in advance........
great that your taking young miss brushmore with you ,
even if she chooses not to hunt , once she takes Africa into her heart , she will yearn to return.
you and the girl will have the time of your lives .

Gizmo, is beautifully written. I agree you. We dream about the same , about of Africa.
Witold
Thank you Witold, I hope one day we have the opportunity to sit around a campfire and discuss these things

@brushmore nothing gives us at Tootabi more pleasure than sharing moments, and memories with families. We are a family business and therefore encourage good relationships, love and laughter in others.

Cannot wait to have you and your daughter with us in a couple of months!!!

Well said....

The spirituality in particular hit home with me. Going to Africa was truly a spiritual experience. It changed me in a way I can't explain. everyone here will understand that and others think I'm nuts. I'm good with that.

And I can't wait to get back.

Royal27, with me is the same. This disease is called Africa.

The next trip for me is May 2015 and I'm already trying to figure out how to pull the following trip in from 2018 to 2017 (going to be DG somewhere for that one).

So why do you call it a disease again??? ;)

Gizmo... Well stated and especially since you have not actually been there yet... You will find all you stated, but to the extreme.

@brushmore

I think it is good that you take the miss with you!! You will build some lasting memories and as it is both of your 's first time you will always remember this trip of all the others you are still to make ...
Enjoy the hunt and good luck on planning your family hunt for the twins and the wife!!!

All the best
