Have the opportunity my first african safari now what?

Must camps are just one group at a time. You got a great price for what you are getting but adding on will cost you. You may want to reach out to him and see what he will charge you for those 3 animals.
That is just a long way to go and a lot of time to hunt just what you bought.

that would be remove one wildebeest and add a zebra impala and blesbuck sorry I left the zebra out

1 impala and 1 blesbuck or 2 each. your giving him back a wildebeest and that cost for even if it is 2 each is crazy. No way would I pay that

I just corrected my post sorry about the confusion

that is still crazy. Most will swap a wildebeest for a zebra maybe charge you 100 to 200 for the swap. 2400 to add impala and blesbuck even if it is 2 each is way to high.

Is the 2400 for 1 impala and 1 blebuck or 2 each of them. If it is for 2 each and to swap zebra that is not as bad and would be worth it to make it a better hunt but still on the high side

It was 2400 for 1 impala and 1 blesbuck plus the upgrade for a zebra. I was thinking the same thing. why should I pay 1k for the zebra when the blue wildebeest i will give back is only 500 cheaper

Welcome to AH, I don´t discuss prices on the forum, but I would advise you to compare those of your outfitter with any of our sponsors. You are in for a surprise :E Horrified:

You are right about not discussing prices. Maybe I shouldn't have but I wanted to put it out there so the more informed could guide me. Looking at some of the prices it seems he is about 300 more for most of the animals. I have no clue why this is but what I am trying to figure out is in the long run is it cheaper to go with someone else or stick with him since I only have 800 for 7 days of hunting with 3 different species a total of 6 animals in all. it seems like it would make sense to stick with him since I don't have to pay the daily fee which would be 2100 for most places

I am just really trying to figure out if i am getting screwed or not. If you don't want to say so on here publicly or you have other suggestions you would like to keep private pleas feel free to message me

Huntinlabs (nice name. I should be huntinGSP...;)
You can get an African hunt usually either by an all inclusive package, or by daily fees with trophy fees each time you pull the trigger (game recovered or not). You can check each of these out at the websites of most of those who advertise on AH. Just make yourself a spreadsheet and compare what you bought to what they advertise. There can be a big variance in trophy fees from one game ranch/conservancy to another for certain species. Even jackals can vary from free to maybe $250. Free is usually not time hunted, but by accident while hunting something else. If you take days hunting jackal specifically, they'll usually/may cost you.
Don't get too cheap on yourself. Africa is a life changing experience.
JMO, so do your homework. Lots of great articles here from checklists to who to contact in an emergency to insuring a trip.
Enjoy the planning stage as well as the trip.

At this point what you are getting for 800 is a great deal. The only way it would be cheaper to start over is if you were really going to take animals like kudu, eland or nyala or a bunch of animals. They the cost difference would start covering day fees very quickly at the rates he is charging.

The only thing I would say to do is give him a chance to see if he would be ok with certain fees on animals. Just flat out tell him you will not be taking anymore animals at the rates he is offering. At this point it will be easier to pay more to take advantage of the deal you have. I myself would try to see if he would be willing to do impala, blesbuck and warthog at 550 each. I can not see a way he will lower fees on kudu and the like to make it worth taking them with him at the going market rate.

I would be glad to put some numbers together for a hunt but would need to know what animals you would want and if it is you and wife or another friend who is hunting also. Feel to send me a PM if I can help

What is going on is the outfitter has priced his animals so he can show big discounts on packages and still make good $$. He also hopes to recoup his costs on auction hunts that he donates. Some outfitters prefer to show their best (cheapest) pricing on their websites. Some are discounters. He is likely not wanting to discount it too much to you, so he makes money from your trip rather than it costing him money. His business model.
I had a similar deal this year. I hunted with 3 companies. One was 3 days hunting. That was the auction hunt. It could of been as long as 7 days. Perhaps hunt 3-4 days with him and then go elsewhere less expensive...... Take a good look at the hunts offered on here for the last 9 months or so. That will give you a good idea on pricing.
If that won't work then go bird hunting or fishing. Tell him straight up you can't afford to pay more and that is what you can afford to do. Also look into a day or two at one of the national parks. Sometimes there is a small extra charge for you to go there. Always something to do. Just needs to fit the budget and interests that you have. Ask about cull animals. I got a extra warthog and 2 porcupines on my last trip. Sometimes cull animals make sense. Still hunting and shooting for a lot less. Maybe someone else has other suggestions on how to profitably use some of your spare time. Good luck and enjoy your hunt. Bruce

Not all auction hunts have high trophy fees, some are a real bargain and a true donation hunt. I've been on two auction hunts that were a very good deal and very reasonable trophy fees for additional animals, one even let me trade a blue for a hartebeest.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
