Hats on safari

Well done man!
The best way to acquire a pithy is to be gifted one. By a good friend. In Africa. Drinking whiskey (Or whisky.) Around a campfire.

I really like the 4" brim and pinch front crown of the Akubra. I have a similar looking Stetson that can be dreadful to wear in temps above 75F. I also have a Filson Packer Tin Cloth that traps the heat in the summer. Crazy how hot these things can get. I'd never bring either of them to Africa.

@BeeMaa - I like the fish & the shirt….who makes that shirt (older Cabela’s “Serengeti”?)

That is a nice bull . Great horns and big bases on him. But I digress.
hats.
Choice of “The Bombay Bowler” The Wolseley pith helmet, a common or garden sun helmet off eBay or a Rogue River leather hat.View attachment 604932
You must be “a brother from another mother” with @Kevin Peacocke a very good friend of mine!!!

The fish is a Lake Trout caught on the Rondout Reservoir in NY.

The shirt is an Orvis Bush Shirt that I had tailored to remove the bottom of it and make it into an "untucked" version. The one in the picture you saw is the British Tan but my first one was the darker Olive colored one seen here...also modified to be untucked. Not sure if Orvis makes this shirt anymore, but when I bought them they were making them in two different weight fabrics. The ones I have are the heavier of the two and I believe the others were a linen version.

And I'm still wearing a boonie! Sorry guys, trying to stay on topic and explain my shirts to @HankBuck at the same time. ;)

@BeeMaa - nice wildebeest, and very good shirt, but the Boonie ?? rarely see one of those on a well dressed & well equipped hunter - I assume it gives you a clear shooting accuracy advantage

I would suggest a reasonably cheap cotton sun hat, or if you want to splash out, a Tilley hat would be good as the brim is stiffer and wider, so it shelters the eyes better.
Akubras are great hats, but I find them a little too warm, espeicially if you're in a humid area.
Basically, if you're going for more than a day or two, you shouldn't take anything you want to keep, because the chances are it will get very dirty or you will loose it anyway.
Enjoy yourself

Wow. Nice painting, I am just to get my elephant and then have the same on my wall
You take your picture then send it to my person who reproduces your photo in oil on canvass
