Has anyone had ammunition checked for weight?

Have you ever had ammunition weighed before boarding a commercial aircraft?

Sounds like you were very fortunate! You had the case locked with TSA locks?
Yes, you are supposed to use TSA locks for ammo case if it is allowed inside another checked bag. Use a regular padlock (not TSA) on separate rifle cases.

Apologies, I was referring to the gun case being opened. I know TSA locks are required on the ammo container inside checked bag.
If the gun case was locked with regular locks, how was it opened? Locks cut?

yup,
emirates weighed mine after they took the locked case out of my luggage, on the way to Africa, not on the way back

On my way home from SA in 2017 I flew Air France from JNB to CDG to ATL. AirFrance weighed my ammo *and* case and said it had to be below the limit. I had to call my outfitter (who luckily hadn't left the parking garage) and give them a couple boxes of 375s to keep to get ammo and case under the limit.
Crazy isn’t it how gate agents make up their own rules!

South African air weighed mine on the way in and out.

In 10 international flights (20 including the trips home), I have not had my ammo weighed.

On my first trip to Mozambique, Moz customs wouldn't let me bring in more than 40 rounds of .300 Wby ammo. Then after the hunt when customs gave me back my 3rd box of ammo, the Moz police screening my baggage was not going to allow me to take it home.

European airlines require a separate lockable case for the ammo, with a limit of 5Kg, including case.
They will normally weigh it.

Have flown Delta, United, Air France, Lufthansa, South African Airways with rifles and ammo, international, United and Delta interstate, never weighed. Air France at Dulles had me open the Pelican to see if the ammo was in boxes. Go figure. Then again, maybe you guys that get it weighed look a little shady?:p:D

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.
