Gun control in Kiwiland

Maybe the Gov will reverse their attacks on law abiding citizens and reverse the crazy gun grab now they understand their huge mistake???? Ya right. Good on NZ Gov for actually announcing the real problem they found. I bet Canada's dictator will NEVER own up to any of his mistakes.

No, now he's LOWERING the penalties for people convicted of crimes with firearms. This includes people smuggling in illegal firearms, as well as people with repeat offenses. And then he's taking away firearms from hunters and sport shooters that are using and storing them properly and legally, and have never been convicted of any crime.
How much sense does this make?

Justin Trudeau is just continuing to buy votes with taxpayers money, He knows that the firearm owners community will never vote for him anyways so why try to appease them. But he also knows that if he continues to suck up to the socialist community he increases his chances of gaining a majority in the next election. What is so damn disappointing is that the Canadian electorate can't seem to grasp this and there doesn't appear to be any legislative opposition to his totalitarian ways. The NDP and Green parties are all eunuchs and Conservative Party is scared of their own shadow. FWIW

US Rep Sheila Jackson-Lee has proposed a firearms registry bill that would require listing, licensing and inspecting all privately owned firearms in the USA. Special training for ownership, and an even more "special" license for ownership of "military style" weapons. So it's not just our NZ and Canada bros. under attack...............FWB

Maybe this crazy witch should start by going after the criminals first, not the law abiding citizens. Ugh!!!!!

The link hardly qualifies as an accurate current news story. They are using stats for the year prior and year of the ban.

Gun crime skyrocketed in recent years, the gun ban occurred, and the results are still unknown.

@flatwater bill
We already have all that plus no semi auto weapons. We get along fine and our hunting/ shooting fraternity is bigger now than before all the crap. We also have the SSAA promoting our beautiful sport and the Shooters, fishers and farmers party in politics to stand up for us as well.

Perhaps you are right, Bob. Perhaps it will turn out OK. I hope so. This lady is also advocating de-funding of the police, so I don't think crime reduction is her goal. The measure will likely not pass..................this time, anyway. Many Americans are wary of a registry where all their firearms are listed for criminals to view. We may need to learn some lessons from Australia if measures such as this pass. ......................FW Bill

How does registration make anything safer, reduce crime, or save lives? (Legitimate question here)

very simply - it does not

@Cam Moon
In reality it doesn't but it does help stop people getting LEGAL firearms that have mental health issues or bad criminal records.
If you have an apprehended violence order on you you can't get a firearm license for 10 years after it's expiry.
In some cases it helps but criminals circumvent it by importing illegal firearms.

But I would think that the screening process and license application and continued checks would do all of that. Not the registration. Or am I missing something?

A person bent on doing harm will do harm - they will do so using tools that are the most obtainable, the cheapest, the deadliest, the loudest or whatever the psychopatic need needs to be satisfied first. People have slayed each other before firearms were invented and would continue to do so if they somehow got uninvented. The catalogue of tools that can be used to harm others, available to anyone with a sick desire to do so, is unlimited and starts with a medium sized stone. Once upon a time our ancestors used these to hunt. It is not the tool that causes murder, it is the murderer. In Poland, in order to obtain a firearms licence you need to go through a medical, psychological, psychiatric as well as police verification. And yet people continue to be murdered with illegally owned firearms. So what problem do these laws address exactly?

Welcome to Canada, we already have every thing that crazy anti gun Jackson Lee wants. I still cannot believe that people cannot understand that laws only apply to those that follow them. If I am going to rob a bank or gang bang my opposition am I really worried that I did not have a shrink meeting, register my weapon, have it trigger locked or even a permit to have. If politicians were really out to protect citizens they would make new laws towards criminals.

Its all part of the "come back better" mindset. Civilian ownership of firearms is going away, that's the plan. Easier to control an unarmed public.

I just don't understand how ANYONE could believe that banning firearms is the answer. Has this ever worked anywhere? I don't get it.
Americans must be the worst canoeists and boaties in the world as they keep losing their uninsured guns in deep water. Every time a leftist opens his gob on gun grabbing with brain disengaged, gun sales go up. It happened under Hussein.

No worries. She-Jack is a moronical tyrant, but even the dems stay away from. AFAIK, no legislation she has ever proposed has made it out of the House of Representatives.

And being in greater Houston, I have to hear every word that comes out of her festering gob.

"Lady"?? This ridiculous excuse for a humanoid is no lady. On her bill? Zero chance of becoming law. She rolls this crap out every year to try to justify her sorry existence. Another lifetime appointee to Congress, thanks to monumentally stupid voters!

As much as I disagreed with almost everything Mickey Leland and Barbara Jordan (She-Jacks predecessors) said or did, neither of them ever acted in any way other than gentlemanly/lady-like.

Considering her district is about 80% black & Latino, and about 17% white liberal, yeah, she has a seat for life.

If my memory serves me right, she said that a man had landed on Mars. Has the same mentality of the male democrat who said the island of Guam would tilt over into the sea if all the people rushed to one side of the island (or something like that). These Neanderthals are the people running the US and that's scary.
(Apologies to any living Neanderthals as they had/have a larger brain capacity than the average Congressional democrat).

Speaking of humanoids, Sheila's doppelganger Maxine Waters has been very quiet lately.
