How is it going everyone? I'm Poglife2171. I'm an amateur hunter, very passionate about cartridges and firearms development, and amateur YouTuber. This forum has given me a lot of references for load data and many other hunting related material. I look forward to seeing y'all in the threads.

Welcome! Lots of Texas folks here. What part of Texas are you located in?

Have you been to Africa? You say you're an amateur hunter but heck most of us are;)

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen has a secondary love affair with the 25-06 so he may well be along to congratulate you on the choice and school you on the desperate need you have for a 35 Whelen:)

@ActionBob
Anyone that owns a 25-06 or any 25 in my book must be a person with class and superior intellect to know how great the 25s are. If'n he has a Whelen to go with it go to the top of the class.
He must be a fine gentleman with superior knowledge and skills to weed out rubbish like the 6mms and the over rated 270 to select such a great multi purpose round.
In sub 30 cals you can't go past a fast 25 unless it's an even faster 25 like the 257 Weatherby.
Dang even the humble little 25-35 has toppled trucks full of deer with the 117 gn round nose. So for short to long range the 25s rock.

Never been to Africa, but absolutely love the cartridge reading, and a lot of the writers like John Taylor, Bell and others. I'm barely getting into public land hunting at Sam Houston NF, and i live a little south of Houston.

I'm in the process of getting a "275 rigby AI" barrel made and might get a 338-06 or 9.3x62 made as well for this rifle. But inside of North America the 25-06 & 25-06AI are my go-to cartridges for anything without large teeth lol.

Forgit that little 338 ought six or the 9.3x62.
Just go for the tower of power that the good colonel had and stoke it up with healthy doses of cfe223 and go have fun.
We are talking the mighty 35 Whelen.

Haha we'll see, .338 is just about the biggest bore I would likely ever need, but the 9.3 would fit right in. I've heard good things about the Whelen, but both it and the 9.3 are way more than I could imagine needing . I had to get myself a 7x57 AI barrel, but I'm having them label it "275 Rigby AI" as a joke haha.

Hola hermono, soy Tejano

Welcome to AH. Good to have you here.
Best regards

It's not about needing it's about wanting.
The Whelen is a real pussy cat to shoot and can be loaded from mild to wild. You can use it from nice to the biggest African plains game without rattling your teeth and knocking your hat off. Recoil is very manageable.
Don't let anyone tell you it's a short range bush cartridge. Loaded with a nice 225 gn accubond at 2,900fps it's more than capable of taking big game out to 400+ yards. It's also capable of very fine accuracy with groups of way less than an inch at 100 yards.
I'm glad you have a 25-06 it's a superb long range cartridge. Loaded with a good 100gn bullet at 3,400 fps with 54gn of H4350 it will reach a long ways out to take game cleanly.

Yeah with the Ackley I'm shooting a 120 partition at about 3450, and a 101 LRX in the 3600fps range. I really wanted the Weatherby, but I'm so close to it's doorstep that it doesn't make sense to burn a ton more powder for a relatively small increase in velocity.

Any -06 derivative is bound to be a great choice, including the Whelen, it is definitely on my radar for my big bore collection.
