Greetings from the Great White North

Yes, 16th of April and it IS snowing here. I am in the process of building a .404 Jeffery on a Mauser 98 and found several very useful threads on Africa Hunting. Since I've been to the East Cape a few times hunting, figured I should join instead of lurking like some creepy coward.
Welcome to AH from the now green desert!

Grrr. I'm tired of this!

Welcome, glad to have you here!

Thanks for that link. I had tripped on some of those threads. Nice to have them consolidated. Duane Weibe in Washington state has published a book on what's involved in converting standard Mauser 98 to magnum. He has dropped a copy in the mail for me. It will be very helpful for my gunsmith. A special thank you for the reloading info. Guess I'll need to order a crimper. Hopefully I can pick your brain as this project progresses.
After the first reload I tried a few without crimping and ran through three magazines full, leaving the last cartridge in place and just topping off the magazine each time (3 +1) so in the end the same cartridge had been in there for 9 shots and did careful measurements and there was no shortening of the OAL of the test cartridge so I never crimped again although I would do if the situation was to be hunting in DG country. I did extensive testing and found that my own loading of 84gn H4350 (AR2209) and Fed 215 under the 400gn woodleigh bullet for 2300 fps was a very accurate and easy shooting load in myn 9 1/2 lb rifle and having passed that same info to many other 404 Jeffery owners it has proven time and again to be an equally accurate 2300fps load in numerous rifles. I will send a link to the piece I wrote on my build and testing.

Thanks again. That is handy since 4350 is all I use for 30-06 ... like a million other guys. There would be a bloody insurrection if Hodgon Co ever stopped making that powder.

The powder packaged by Hodgdon as H4350 is made and sold in Australia and New Zealand under the ADI brand as AR2209.

Hodgon also owns IMR and Accurate. I understand there are slight differences in the three 4350 powders under those names. Something to do with temperature sensitivity. The charge differences are negligible. I just buy what I can get and check it at the range. Again, I'm rarely shooting at anything further than 150 yards so don't need to be pushing any envelopes at the loading bench.

Hello from rural Idaho. Glad you decided to turn in your “creepy coward” status.

I was born in Emmett and lived there one week before parents moved to Montana. I taught HS and coached wrestling mid eighties in St Maries.

Oh, you weren't too far from us....about 2 hours I think. We live in Cottonwood which is about an hour south of lewiston. I grew up in PA....so I "married into Idaho" as I like to put it.....but I LOVE it. Of course, Montana is equally fantastic. Sue

Another day ... another snow storm. If I could find Old Man Winter, I'd punch him in the face! SOB is probably on a beach in Florida.

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
