Just wanted to take the time to introduce myself shortly. I have been reading the forum for some time and it surely is a wealth of knowledge and experience. So first; thank you!

I have booked my first safari and it will take place in May 2022 in South Africa. Cape Buffalo, Kudu and some other plains game is on the menu, and I could not be more excited.

At 32, I have hunted for approx seven years now. Mostly small game with my trusted old dog (roe deer, hare, an occasional fox) but also some fallow deer, red deer, boar and of course moose. I have been dreaming of Africa for a long time though and when the opportunity presented itself, I seized it.

I am now plowing through all kinds of literature; from Hemingway and Capstick to Ruark and Blixen.

In a few weeks I will also get my .416 Rem Mag and after that a .375 H&H, both of which I will bring with me. As for now I primarily hunt with my old M98 chambered in 9,3x57 and my drilling chambered in 8x57IRS/16 gauge. I want as much training as possible with the bigger bores before the trip so I can't wait for them to arrive. I will also hunt with them extensively prior to the safari (although .416 might be a bit overkill for moose...) The .375 is of course a nice moose, boar and driven hunt caliber in its own right.

Anyway, thanks again for this amazing forum. See you out there!

Welcome to AH bonnevier! Great intro and looking forward to your participation.

Hello! I have recently become very interested in the hunting culture in Sweden. It looks like it is popular there. Is that true?

Hello bonnevier,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

Best Regards,

Welcome to AH bonnevier. Congratulations on booking your first safari. we look forward to your input. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. A lot of experienced people on here that are more than willing to help.

Welcome to the other side, will be watching for a hunt report on your return.

That's quite the arsenal you're building. I thought that the Swedes only used the 6.5x55 Mauser for moose :)

Sounds like your preparation has you well on your way to a great African safari

You sure know how to make a lad feel welcome, thanks!

Went out with the dog and a couple of friends today. -3 C and a light snowfall, not too bad for these parts of the country :giggle:

Small drive today so the s/s got some exercise.

Yes it is. We have a quite liberal legislation for hunting with dogs etc in Sweden and Scandinavia, we are very fortunate in that regard in comparison with most countries I guess.

Let me know if you plan a vacation or trip here, would be happy to invite you hunting!

Haha yeah, in the old days for sure! Hunters of the younger generations seem to prefer 308, 9,3x62 and 8x57 for the most part. The 6,5 still has its place in many arsenals though and is a great cartridge :)

Personally I will always keep a 9,3x57 in my cabinet, or the “potato thrower” as it is known here

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
