Only joined the site to ask a question about a broken stock on one of my rifles.
So inspired by the help and feedback in record time so here we go with the intro.
Born in Kenya, been in Tanzania for 16 years and work in the Ruaha National Park as a walking safari guide where my wife and I run a small safari outfit.
Hunted for the pot on Occassion when training many years ago in South Africa but must say it never grabbed me, I sit literally "on the other side of the fence" our Park is surrounded by Game Reserves on all sides which of course hunting is the main activity and as an ardent conservationist have much interest in the topic. Please nobody panic, many of my friends are hunters and I am incredibly well versed and on the front lines of seeing the good it does from a conservational point of view and am constantly arguing the value of it with 90% of my guests who are simply ill informed. If it wasn't for these hunting Game Reserves the farmers would be banging on my front door and chopping down everything. In fact my mentor many years ago was Brian Nicolson whom garnered fame back in the days of old when he properly introduced commercialised sport hunting in East Africa, particularly the Selous Game Reserve which essentially saved the entire 50,000 Sq Km from becoming a ground nut plantation. (His autobiography - "The last of old Africa" is a riveting read and will be up most of your alleys!!!
Other than tourism now spend much of my time training rangers/parks personnel in heavy caliber weapon usage/safety and teaching them to conduct safe walking safaris with something other than their trusty AK47's!!!!
Most of my day however I guess is just spend with my guests walking with Elephants in this beautiful Park. Through my ranger training projects now I am getting more and more interest in the weapons themselves. My use of them is purely defensive, short range stuff for surprise attacks purely for the saving of human life.
