Greetings from California (Yes, I moved) - Time to get serious chasing my elephant dream

Spot on @mikecatt13 , especially if you don't reload. I used 470NE on my elephant. Also had 375HH with me. Even those calibers requiring some looking and some luck to find factory ammunition.

@elephantmaster29 best of luck with your planning and training. Step 1 to making your dream a reality is committing to take action! Well done.

Here's the report of my first elephant hunt, back in 2021:
Zim elephant hunt w/ Dalton&York Safaris

And here's the report on buying my first double:
Chapuis Brousse 470NE
Unfortunately, even if you do reload these days. I had to buy 60 rounds of swift .300WM to pull bullets because I cant find any bullets. Just stocked up on a few more components. But they're tough to find these days...and I have access to dealer only stuff from competition sponsorships and it's still hard on certain things! Crazy times

Thanks so much, Rinehart. It was great chatting with you about your hunt. It gave me excellent insight into what I would be looking for and asking. It gave me an extra kick

Welcome to the posting side! Have fun planning and let us know if you have any questions...

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
