Hello--

Happy to be here. I'm a few years away from retirement and hope to do an African hunt before I'm too decrepit! I hunt waterfowl, upland game and whitetails.

I enjoy the various TV shows featuring African hunts. One thing I've noticed is the way rifles are handled during the hunt. What I'm talking about is the habit of holding the barrel while the forearm rests on the shoulder. Why is this done in Africa exclusively? I've not seen this in North American hunts. It seems somewhat careless to be yanking on the barrel. I'd be concerned with "tweaking" the barrel.

Just an observation on my part. I'll be interested in the rationale.

Welcome to AH JDD51.
I am a PH myself and I personally do not carry my rifle as you explained.
Tried it before but it just seems to irritate my shoulder more than anything else.
Lots of people do walk around with the one hand on the tip of the barrel and the stock resting on the shoulder, but I suppose it is just a preference they have. No logical explanation for it.
Happy hunting!

Welcome jdd51! Enjoy the site.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
