Graduation Hunt

Mort, I have 4 daughters. When they were growing up, we'd go to the gun range and shoot 22 pistol, rifle, etc. When they were teenagers, we'd shoot a little skeet. None of the four were interested in hunting, until my youngest was in college. I took her to Namibia for her 21st birthday and we had a great first hunt for her. The following year, we did an eastern cape PG hunt for her college graduation. Again, a great time together. One bit of caution: Kids like to post stuff on Face Book and they will get some likes and they will get some hate mail.

Spend more time enjoying the experience. The days are long as you know. As are as what to shoot, it depends on many factors. What you see, what they cost, and his personal taste. I haven't seen the pricelist for Graham Jones but I try to look at what animal is "cheap" compared to the broader market at a given place. Generally means they are plentiful usually. For example in Namibia red hartebeest was $550. It wasn't high on my wishlist, but I knew that was a steal compared to others places so I took one. Looking back, wouldn't have had it any other way.

But try to pick one primary quarry, and let the bush decide the rest.

Fabulous advice about price comparison, a couple of specific target animals, and "letting the bush decide the rest". Thanks.

Thanks for the post, and for the social media advice. Excellent point. Wow, 4 daughters! My wife is one of three daughters and I thought her dad deserved a bronze star for combat duty.

So now that we are through all the logistical phases of dates, airlines, and general planning, can I get some input and feedback on the Limpopo region of SA, especially around early June time frame? Also, if you have ever hunted with Graham Jones Safaris, I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

My wife, two teenagers, and I went on our first Safari in mid-June of this year in Limpopo. The hunting was fabulous and had there been no hunting at all it still would have been our best summer vacation to date. The weather was perfect, scenery spectacular, food and service better than on a Carnival Cruise, and generally a happier place than Disney's Magic Kingdom! I predict y'all will very much enjoy your adventure together.

Dear Mort Hill
Congratulations with the graduation of your son.
...we are happy that you select Africa to return to, time and time again...
Enjoy the planning process of yet another trip to Africa....

It is just 27 days until we head to africa. We made it through senior night at church, we just celebrated senior night for the varsity soccer team, we have graduation party Sunday, the graduation in two weeks. Get through these next two weeks and we can just focus on our trip. All the paperwork is done, all the planning has paid off, so now is the time as most hunters understand to start living the safari even before we leave. I look forward to writing a report, as I love to take notes and lots of pictures as I journal. Thanks to all who have shared their wisdom and well wishes!

Back from an awesome safari with my son. The time with him is something I will treasure the rest of my days on planet earth. Will be working on my trip report and posting in the near future. For him, it was the trip of a lifetime. For me, it was the experience of a lifetime.

Top stuff mate, when i graduated school my old man just bought me a beer! Look forward to pics

Can't wait to read the report! My daughter is saving baby sitting money to pay for her own eland on the next trip...
