Good Gun Deals This Week

I wish I could intercept those sellers in the Cabelas parking lot, which I actually did one time by accident when a neighbor who needed cash was walking in to sell them her Glock.

I should probably start a website called Widow Guns .com that would connect these sellers with buyers in the gun community.

I did that once, actually. A fellow had a 12-bore model 21 from 1943 in 95% condition. It was retailed by Marshal Fields in Chicago. The guy was offered an insulting price. I bought it for 80% of FMV and everybody won.

Left-handed Sako Bavarian models do not appear very often. It's been about a year since I've seen a similar 25-06 that was available. This Sako 85 in 270 Win for $1,795 is about as good a price as I've seen lately.

I offered a bolt gun at my local Cabelas and the low ball price was beyond insulting. On another note, if a firearm has been there for some time, you can make an offer. My neighbor has done this with great success. Just need to check often and be patient, its a numbers game and they need turnover. Right about their offers, about 40% of value.

I saw that one as well when I was there yesterday morning. They also had a pretty nice pre-Gatcia (1968) Sako L61R in 30-06 for $849 that was tempting me. The glossy wood finish was a bit beat up, but it would make for a nice refinishing candidate.
Those unused tradeshow Colts they have in the gun library almost got me yesterday. Im always hesitant to buy anything from there because they wont let me check out the triggers before purchasing. I suppose it doesnt make too much of a difference because I always end up working on most of the guns I do buy but still, if I am going in there to spend potentially thousands I should be able to inspect the gun completely.

I saw that exact Sako you are referring to. They are great rifles. I use to have that exact rifle but with the antelope inlays on the magazine plate. Another rifle I regret getting rid of

Went back today and couldnt turn it down

As a left-handed shooter, I'm a fan of my extremely accurate Sako. It's a great rifle.

When I saw the left-handed Sako AV below chambered in a magnum-length 300 Weatherby for $1,199 at a Bass Pro, it made me pause. Since it already has crossbolts and what appears to be a pricey EAW-style pivot scope mount, my brain started thinking of other large cartridges I might want to consider rebarelling this rifle into. Maybe mounting some iron sights onto the barrel. It seems to have some potential as a a nice project rifle. It also wouldn't be bad as-is.

But I would really consider it a personal favor if one of my fellow lefties would make this temptation disappear before I buy yet another rifle I don't actually need...

I think the bolt face would be the same, but if I wanted to buy something like this and convert it to a .470 Capstick, would the mag hold something that long? Or would I be single feeding it?

It should be perfect for that conversion if you are willing to do the work

A shooter on the Long Range Hunting forums said his Sako AV chambered in 300 Wby (COL 90.5mm) had a 92mm magazine. Some magnum loads like the 375 H&H at 91.4mm would still fit but things would start getting tight. A 470 Capstick round at 3.65" / 93mm might be a fraction too long.

So my guess is that some additional work might need to be done if a person wanted to shoot commercial ammo in a particular chambering. But this might be an irrelevant consideration if a person always planned to shoot handloads and could guarantee the rounds would be short enough to feed well.

The reason I posted the link to this particular rifle was I thought that since it shot the 300 Wby, that the magazine length & bolt face might both be big enough to handle some of the 375 H&H parent case cartridges with minor work.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx
